To be fair a phone that can be docked and used as any number of other workstations should really be the goal. One device that can do everything is the dream… Running Linux also a requirement.

I actually own a sex toy that, in order to use certain features, I need to connect to my phone via bluetooth and log in to their server on their app with a username and password. Careful what you wish for.

You’re describing Ubuntu’s Convergence, something Canonical was working on back in like 2011 I think.

Sucks nothing really came of it. By 2014 there were a few functional demos of it but you don’t really see it nowadays.

With the many attempts in Android to implement this it’s a little shocking that there hasn’t been more work in the open source space, but I guess Ubuntu mobile and Firefox OS couldn’t even make a dent and mobile costs so much to develop for

I did Samsung dex for a while, its ok as long as you don’t want low level access to what you connecting to.

Now I switched to a gpd micropc 2 and its built in ethernet, sd card, usb a and c sockets and native linux make it so much more useful. No longer do i need dongles or other rubbish.

Plus it will do multiple monitor support, something dex struggles with. The keyboard is a little small for touch typing but the former factor is worth the trade of for me.

Starting from Android 15 you should be able activate a native “terminal” app in the Developer Settings, which is Debian running in a VM. No need for termux anymore. I have it activated in GrapheneOS but haven’t used it much.

i want to slot my phone into the computer like those cars where you insert the remote as a key.
The phone should have all the important data, and the computer is basically a smart dock that can be used on its own but when you insert the phone it’s a seamless experience.

The thing is, this would just be equivalent to leaving it on at all hours, because who would join such a chat room without the intention of switching it on. Even if you joined such a chat room and had some restraint and decided to wait till the moment you thought would be most amusing, someone else would definitely just decided that it should be on now and basically the only lull would be if the number of users was relatively limited and mostly in the same timezone so everyone is sleeping.

    Replace things?

Virtually every computing device I’ve ever owned is somewhere in the house I’m in. I sold my first PC (a Leading Edge 8088 IBM clone) and I still regret it. It’d have been hard to get hooked into my homelab, but I would have figured it out.

I have some remote controlled toys. Sounds fun but the apps are shit. Even with a partner it’s horrible to actually use it. You just want to get fucked but instead the app fucks you with ads, bugs and complicated constructions to get it working and that way to get fucked is really not something that makes you cum.
