Wow. Republicans can’t even take care of their military and rely on handouts from other countries to pay their bills. How embarrassing

The GOP never cared, they just virtue signal to get their votes…which is why people like Sinese seem are just as disengenious, how convenient for him to suddenly be all over reddit( he posts on reddit quite frequently for troops) shilling for the gop just before and after the election, and completely silent on the GOP cutting or shutting down Va benefits

… has stated that the US is obliged to reimburse the funds.

So, they spent $50million to pay our employees, and they expect Trump to pay them back? Have they not been paying attention?

But, also, fuck them for doing this. They should do everything BUT pay them, including kicking them out if it comes to that. It’s not their responsibility, and they should not be covering for our fucked up government.

Tricky to “kick out” an outpost of the most powerful military in the world.

Further, you really don’t want an outpost of that same military sitting in your country unpaid, worrying about their family, maybe running short of food, absolutely running short of entertainment, tension rising, and heavily armed.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. But my understanding is roughly the following:

This isn’t for the soldiers, but civilan stuff like cleaners, handymans and so on. The US bases are substantial and probably the largest employer by far in their respective region. So if there is an issue it has substantial knock-on effects for the whole region. Not just the people working there, but also restaurants, shops and so on.

Eventually this would get very expensive for Germany regardless, because if this would go on for too long all these people would need to be taken care of by the welfare system.

So it is likely cheaper to just pay a few salaries and through that avoid permanent changes plus their associated costs, and hope that the US gets their shit together at least somewhat. Even if they don’t pay the money back it might still come out cheaper than the alternative.

Because when someone acts like a child, it’s best not to use it as an excuse to do the same.
