They’ve been trying to get us to use AI at work. They haven’t been able to provide a single example of what I should be using it for, all they know is that I definitely should be using it.

When the bubble bursts it’s me that’s going to be losing my job, rather than the idiots who pushed this on us in the first place.

There are two kinds of idiots - those who think that AI is ready to do everything, and those who think that AI is not good for anything.

They absolutely do, it’s to replace the workforce and, uh… free individuals from the shackles of labor, I’m sure

The question was about the instrumental goal and yours is about the terminal* goal.

So there is the hidden sad reality that the ceo doesn’t know what that labor even is.

That’s a very specific distinction to draw from “AI TO DO WHAT?” There is nothing to indicate either one.

Seems like you were just looking to be pedantic.

No, sorry, I didn’t mean you are wrong. I mean that the comic answers it as an instrumental goal and as the author wrote the conversation, the question was intended to be about the instrumental goal.

But your comment wasn’t wrong. In fact, it added to the comic. Your comment highlight the difference between their instrumental and terminal goal and the implications of it.

I am thankful for your comment and I appreciate you for it. My intentions were to add to yours and not to critic it. Thanks

oh they know exactly what they want. AI so they don’t have to pay wages to many, and the few they do pay wages to, less pay and benefits.

“oh you’re gonna strike for humane hours? replaced” is their wet dream

Gotta eliminate the jobs somehow! They’ll declare AGI despite the fact that LLMs are nearly useless turds that can’t stop making up shit and lying

Well, that’s who they learned from. I’ve read that that is one of the reasons why hallucinations never will be fixed: humans aren’t a good example.

I literally was working with a user who was trying to copy a missing file from a screenshot of an error. They navigated to the folder, verified the file wasn’t there, opened a new tab to grab the file off a server, then started trying to use ChatGPT to extract the path from the screenshot to document it for later.

I instead just went back to the first tab and copied the path before he could think of how to word the prompt.
