Maybe I’m missing something, but how does this fit into the buyeuropean community?
Not sure… but Nokia is a Finnish brand.
Doesn’t Microsoft (an American company) fully own Nokia now?
No, they sold their shares in 2016 back to HMD in Finland.
Still wouldn’t trust them. They had installed a Microsoft-aligned CEO prior to their acquisition.
TIL, thanks! That must be it. I thought they were still owned by Microsoft.
No, they used to own the mobile division only I think.
They started with the mobile division only, and eventually bought the whole company out.
Wtf, no, microsoft has never owned Nokia or bought them out.
microsoft acquired mobile division and /license to use Nokia branding/ in their mobile phones for N period.
HMD acquired the remains of the mobile division that microsoft trashed after some years, and now have worked with Nokia to have exclusive license to manufacture phones with Nokia branding.
Mobile phones were just one part of Nokia, albeit it was a large part back in the days, but they do a lot of other things apart from phones.
