The S Group has decided to temporarily stop purchasing products of Israeli origin, while respecting its legal commitments, the mega-retailer tells Yle.

In practice, the S Group product range has only included a small number of such items, as it has not sold fruit or vegetables of Israeli origin for some time.

Some individual products, such as home carbonation devices, will remain available until the current ranges sell out, S Group Chief Sustainability Officer Nina Elomaa told the public broadcaster by email on Wednesday.

The decision was made in September, she said, based on the European Commission proposal to suspend the trade-related parts of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.

It’s not just the genocide, but IIRC there’s claims every single Thai female agricultural worker reported being sexually assaulted at one point in Israel.

      Sadly, this is not surprising.

Putting that sentence into a search engine pulls up article after article. Some excerpts:

Every foreign agricultural worker was sexually assaulted in Israel, according to a new report presented to the Knesset’s Special Committee on Foreign Workers…Shocking levels of abuse were uncovered by the report, whose authors issued a warning that “The State of Israel has abandoned these women.”

Compiled by immigration experts, Dr Yahel Kurlander and Dr Shahar Shoham, the report found that 100 per cent of foreign agriculture workers were sexually assaulted. Out of 654 Thai foreign workers questioned, all of them said they had been exposed to sexual assault.

However, with more than 25,000 Thai migrant workers said to be working in Israel and supplying the majority of the labour for Israel’s agriculture industry, the number of workers suffering sexual abuse is likely to be much higher.

Currently, there does not appear to be a proper and secure means available to foreign workers who have been victims of sexual abuse to lodge a complaint…

Ask yourself why you never heard of this report before. Ask why the New York Times or the Washington Post didn’t cover it.

Oh. Me getting local news through international channels. Anyhow, yay. This is the way. I wonder where persimmon will come from now.

Also, I have prefered the S-group over the K-group for-basically-like-ever, so I feel doubly satisfied.
