The changes are actually pretty minor:

The anime sequence that provides O-Ren’s backstory is extended, showing how she got her revenge on the assassin who killed her parents, not just the boss who ordered it.

In the original fight with the Crazy 88, she does an eye pluck and the rest of the fight is in black and white, this cut remains in color for the full run of part 1.

Part One ends right after The Bride’s speech to Sophie, “And I want them all to know they’ll soon be as dead as O-Ren.” Break for intermission. No cliffhanger.

Part 2 opens with the Church scene, a recap of part 1 not being necessary.

Added material after the end credits including a new scene set after the killing of Vernita Greene showing the end of the Pussy Wagon. Gogo’s sister flies to L.A. for revenge.
That whole sequence is weird as it’s, not kidding, animated in Fortnite and seems to follow Fortnite violence rules. Uma Thurman does return to do the voice of the Bride though.
Overall, it’s a good flick, but I think I like the original versions better.
First, the second movie also has sequences in black and white, and because the big fight scene is now in full color, there’s no precedent for the B&W footage, it just kinda comes out of nowhere.
Second, the cliffhanger at the end of part 1 is epic, it seems criminal to cut it.
Third, Fortnite? Seriously? They couldn’t even be bothered to call the Pussy Wagon “Pussy Wagon”, it’s “😸 Wagon”.

Yeah, the only reference to the Pussy Wagon in part 2 is when she’s talking to Esteban and tells him it broke down on her.

That was my reaction. I saw a review referencing it and I was like “Somehow the Bride returns!” What is going on in this timeline?

I guess there’s a justification of sorts in the way Kill Bill itself deals with the animated sequence, having the style of animation change as we progress through time. So in a way this puts it in the present. Which would be easier to justify had Kill Bill been a new movie, but maybe this sequence takes place a few years later.
But even if so… Yeah, I find this hard to accept. Why not cooperate with a real studio. I would have been so excited—now I just don’t care at all.

I just want a proper, no bullshit live action Kill Bill 3 with Uma Thurman where a now grown up daughter of Copperhead comes back for revenge. Is that really too much to ask.
The IMDB score is meaningless, as it’s very easy to abuse. I’ve read a story of a person creating countless accounts just to manipulate a score on Metacritic. Even if the platforms had a strict verification system so it’s one account per user, they’re still subject to review bombing from people who just disdain anything Fortnite, like Steam fans who hate Epic or Linux users who can’t play the game. It’s not like an exit poll of those who have actually watched the short film.
Yeah, and it’s particularly unreliable for new movies. And even when it’s not abused it’s obviously just a measure of popular taste - which is widely known to be pretty shit. So yeah, I agree with your reluctance towards that source.
Nevertheless, checking 10/10 reviews of Tarantino’s short on IMDB, one of the top reviews boast about how “the entire fight scene including the usage of curses like the original films do”—as if hearing a character from their favorite video game swear is such a thrill it justifies a top score. It’s hard to be to optimistic.
I don’t think the haters care much about fortnite, we just don’t like sell-outs. My only feelings towards fortnite is that I’m happy my nephew is finally playing something else than fucking roblox. Tarantino would have been equally wise to team up with either, in my opinion.
Fortnite is much more than what non-players see it as though. There are now separate games within Fortnite, which play nothing like the Battle Royale. Lego Fortnite is like Minecraft but with Lego characters. Rocket Racing is an arcade racing game with cool tricks from Rocket League, kinda like what I’ve heard of Trackmania. Fortnite Festival is a rhythm game from the creators of Guitar Hero, featuring countless licensed tracks. Ballistic is Epic’s take on Counter-Strike and Valorant. And so on.
The number of crossovers in Fortnite is also unparalleled. If nothing else, I’d be interested in it for The Matrix, Terminator, Alien, or Star Wars crossovers. You could play as the Terminator with a Star Wars backpack. Quite fun and unique, IMO.
As for Kill Bill, there are quite a few comments saying Tarantino did it for the money, but isn’t the same true for everything? Every top-tier filmmaker makes films in part for the money and wouldn’t do it if they were barely paid. That doesn’t mean they agree to anything or that their vision isn’t in the product.
I think most great artists pursue their art because of a love of the art. Film making is expensive and like everyone else they need to put food on the table, but any artist who is in it for the money is already lost.
I haven’t seen Megalopolis yet, but I think it’s a great example of a film maker having no interest in return of investment. The closing statements of Life of Brian is another great example: “I told him, I said to him, Bernie, I said, they’ll never make their money back.”
As for Fortnite, it might be more similar to Roblox than I thought. ;)
Megalopolis is an interesting watch, lots of allegory which blows by people and they go “I don’t get it, 0/10.”

My friend was talking about seeing this a month ago and then found out the new scene was made in fortnite and now refuses. We also thought that was dumb to do. It just seemed like he sold out to make a fortnite promotion more than anything and thats pretty awful. Besides that thanks for the list of other changes since we really didnt think there were any.
He was also talking about how bad Paul Dano is recently which was also in bad taste. I really hope he hasn’t lost it in his old age… I really dont want to end up hating him over saying more dumb stuff.

I’m hoping to catch it later this month, only because Tarantino talks about how his movies should be seen in theatres, and they’re never in theatres.
I’m pleased to say I’ve seen all of them during the original theatrical runs and for the most part, yes, 100% worth it.
Not a fan of Jackie Brown, Death Proof, or Once Upon a Time in America, but still glad I saw them.
Jackie Brown and Death proof were retromod movies, but Once Upon a time had some great writing and acting. It’s just people feel uncomfortable with re-writing historical events.
I was OK with that, it’s just that for a large part of the movie nothing fucking happens. Lots of driving around 1969 LA listening to vintage radio commercials, not even a killer soundtrack as you’d expect from Tarantino…
Same beef with Jackie Brown… lots of long, slow shots of Pam Grier walking. We get it, Tarantino’s a foot guy, and Grier does have gorgeous legs… but come on!
Yeah but that was immersive. There was an era when no one was out on the town because they didn’t want to miss their TV episode that week, and the day after, it’s all people talked about. Major FOMO with network TV.
The long scenes with Di Caprio acting in a western were brilliant. Too much of Hollywood is full action for 2 hours and it gets tedious fast.
That scene with the little girl was amazing!
I went and saw this on Friday night. The changes were minor like you recapped. I think this is my preferred way to view them in the context of a double-feature since it cuts down some of the otherwise duplicate content, and I enjoyed the Crazy 88 scene being in color as QT originally intended it to be. But yeah staying through the credits for a fortnite tie-in was quite a let-down.

I liked Lucy Liu’s acting. She is far more talented than people give her credit for, but she gets cast into shitty roles. She was brilliant on SNL, seriously funny.
