I’d love it too with my 7a, but there’s no way Google does something nice just 'cause. They’ve already sold the phones with a shorter support window and they gain nothing by releasing more updates for those devices.

True, but I got 7 Pro last year and I’m happy with it therefore don’t want to upgrade my perfectly fine phone especially considering its low trade-in value if I decide to trade it for an upgrade and receive the Watch2 as a free (!!) bonus. However, for someone actively looking to upgrade their phone, I think the bundle deal is absolutely great for them.

I see that Google is following the trend of limiting certain software features to the Pro model: Pro controls, Video Boost, Night Sight Video and multi-shot RAW. I hope Pro controls will eventually come to older models, either officially or with a modded APK.

Yea that was probably the only reason I would have upgraded from my 7 pro, and if it’s not there, looks like the 8 series is a pass from me.

The fact that there is no mention of it anywhere when even the latest iPhones mentioned it seems like enough evidence, but I even contacted Google pixel support and they said the same thing, doesn’t have it.

There is some more Tensor G3 info here: https://blog.google/products/pixel/google-tensor-g3-pixel-8/

Biggest takeaway from that is that the Pixel 8/8 Pro will once again have secure Face Unlock that’s been missing since the 4/4XL.

I ordered an 8 Pro to upgrade from my 4XL, along with some Pixel Buds Pro. I already had a Pixel Watch last year and it still works great, so now I can pass that old one on to someone else.

I can see someone being undewhelmed if they already had a 6 or 7, but for those of us coming from farther back it’s still quite an upgrade, and unlike other OEMs, it’s still the whole Pixel software experience.

With 7 full years of OS updates, too, maybe I can keep this one going even longer. My 4XL is still decent, the battery is starting to show its age but otherwise it runs well, just no more updates.

I hope so! Allegedly they have made it easier to swap out the battery on the 8/8 Pro as well but I’ll believe it when I see it. Google said in the keynote that they are partnering with ifixit for replacement parts and so on. You can already get parts from ifixit for older pixels but the process is rather complex.

        Because:

        2. I get free earphones when I buy now
        3. It will arrive next week

The 7 years of updates and that the software experience will be excellent sold me. I don’t even consider Samsung phones because I absolutely hate their software. I also don’t consider buying an IPhone because I own an IPad and while not a terrible experience, it’s worse than on my Pixel.

Good to see minor battery life improvements to the Pixel Watch 2. Hopefully that upgraded heart rate sensor is actually accurate.

    https://youtu.be/TVGk48jcdtg

Pixel Watch was embarrassingly bad in health tracking compared to the Apple Watch SE. It’s cheaper to get an Apple Watch SE + (discounted) iPhone than just a Pixel Watch.

And please get rid of the Fitbit subscription, Google.

Yup, I considered the pixel watch for my android phone but Garmin has an advantage over it in every category while having no subscription. I would have considered an apple watch if it were compatible with android.

I think the pixel watch is doomed to fail unless they can separate from the Fitbit model and continue to improve the hardware and software.

do you trust that guy because he calls himself a scientist or because he has fancy graphs, maybe his accent? hmm… must be the lab dress shown for 5 seconds in the intro.

I saw both of his videos where he compares pixel watch and apple watch against polar h10 chest strap as a reference device, but somehow the reference device is ranked lower than apple device in his pixel watch ratings? How does that happen?

how does a reference device wind up being less accurate against the device you are testing against? I couldn’t find him testing them against an actual medical equipment.

Him comparing Apple watch against Polar H10: https://i.ibb.co/MnSJXR1/image.png

His ranking when testing Google pixel watch where polar h10 is less accurate?: https://i.ibb.co/Xt9hS4J/image.png

Google is shit at hardware and nobody wants a subscription for a watch but maybe, just maybe, this guy seems like a apple fanboy?

The guy doesn’t reveal his data or the code he uses to plot the graphs, just 100s and 100s of affiliate links. How the hell people consider this scientific and why the fuck is it so popular?

I’m no scientist but I don’t know. educate me

So what price do you think the 8 Pro should sell at?

And what price do you think would be good for a 8 Pro and Pixel Watch bundle?

At some point the 8 Pro would be sold at MSRP and without the watch which would be the worst value. And you would have to wait a long while for the phone to drop in price the value of the watch.

Nah pixels drop fast in price and there’s always loads of sales.

Phones havent changed much in the last few years, but prices have sky rocketed.

I think all these flagship phones should be like $700-800 max. $1000 is ridiculous.
