The European Commission has sent a formal notice to Elon Musk’s X requesting information on the social media platform’s provisions to deal with illegal content, disinformation and abusive material posted on the site in the wake of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton, who announced the move on his X account on Thursday, said it marked the first step in an investigation to determine X’s compliance with the European Union‘s Digital Services Act (DSA).

“The DSA is here to protect both freedom of expression & our democracies — including in times of crisis,” wrote Breton.

Oh yeah don’t go after Twitter for the thousands of times it’s been used by state actors to push propaganda for years now, but now it’s against Israel and action must suddenly be taken?

I wonder how much corruption got this to finally happen.

The DSA used here has been in effect for a month or so. This specific case is not why it was created in the first place - but previous failures of platform to handle to EU negative propaganda is one reason it was created.

They’ve been warning them for awhile now, the investigation was gonna happen with or without the situation with Israel

Europe are the only ones ballsy enough to oppose those tech giants and hold them somewhat accountable

        No one is?

Israel isn’t all Jewish people either last I checked and criticism of it is not antisemitism.
