RSS is an aggregation protocol that is

• distributed
• pull-oriented
• self-curated

This is in contrast to reddit, digg, lemmy, or other aggregator services which are

• centralized (even if federated)
• push-oriented
• public input w/ moderator curation

Each of these decisions has tradeoffs.
