My first reaction reading the headline was “Jeez, the new season really seems to go to dark places”

Is it me or is it a strange article? There are tons of “he believes”, “there are stories”, “they heard”. I assume they took pictures of the abuse, is there a reason not to publish them ?

No, that’s how all the sexual abuse allegations are treated. They’re just allegations and we have no evidence to back them up besides testimony.

I believe they happened just because military men are shit and would gladly rape most women given the opportunity. That said, Israelis have a habit of lying about conflicts in the middle-east so I never take their word at face value.

Real big, “boy who cried wolf” vibes.

The privacy of the victims? It would be illegal in the US without their written consent.

It’s a little weird that a video is linked instead of an article.

Edit: actually, this post breaks the rules of the community. Articles only, no videos.

Edit two: the app I’m using is only pulling up the video when I click the link, when I access the Lemmy post in Firefox it’s a normal article. Never seen that happen before, I apologize.

There is an article with the video for me, not sure if that also breaks the rules but I read the article instead of watching the video.

This was right there in the article without watching the video:

There were also stories of hostages being branded (a common practice inflicted on Jews and other prisoners of Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust), and of being sexually abused. “Yes, we did see signs of branding,” Pessach said. “We definitely saw signs of being handcuffed. We did hear and see evidence of sexual abuse in a significant part of the people we have treated. We also heard evidence – and that was one of the hardest parts – of abuse against those that [are still there], both physical and sexual.”

I’m not sure why it is seeming to only be a video for you.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

About 100 Israeli hostages, kidnapped during the deadly Hamas raid on Israel, have been released after more than 50 days in captivity.

Dr. Itai Pessach (director of the Edmond and Lily Safra Children’s Hospital at Sheba Medical Center outside Tel Aviv), whose team interviewed and examined many of them, told “CBS News Sunday Morning” the freed hostages were brought to the medical center whether they wanted to come or not.

“We thought they would need a buffer from that time in captivity, underground, in the dark, with very little food, with a lot of psychological stress,” he said.

Except for a brief cease-fire, there’s been an almost-constant Israeli bombardment of Gaza, much of which has been pummeled into wreckage, with half of the population facing severe hunger.

There were also stories of hostages being branded (a common practice inflicted on Jews and other prisoners of Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust), and of being sexually abused.

Don’t miss Lesley Stahl’s interview with freed hostages on “60 Minutes” Sunday, Dec. 17, on CBS and Paramount+.

The original article contains 590 words, the summary contains 172 words. Saved 71%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

At first you guys were all “Hamas isn’t Palestine and they don’t represent them Palestinian people!” Now you’re all “omg I fucking love Hamas now! Terrorists are good guys!!” Silly ass narrative you got.
