“The path to Everest is littered with the dead bodies of highly motivated people”

    Is one of my mantras

Fun fact: it’s pretty much impossible to get those bodies down and there’s not really anywhere to bury them on the mountain so they’re literally laying pretty much wherever they died. They call that section of the mountain “Rainbow road” because of the multi-colored winter coats of the corpses you have to walk past to get to the summit.

It is not impossible for many. It is just not worth the risk of making more dead bodies while trying to retrieve them. So they do not bother. Callous to some but that’s reality. Hell, some dead bodies are used as milestones or waypoints for some going up.

There a few though that have been lost over the years. And trying to find them is simply too risky. There was the body of a British lady who you could see a few years ago but no one can see her anymore. Likely just covered in snow/ice.

“Friend, remember, it is not about the end goal but about the dead bodies of other motivated people you may encounter, along the way. Be wary of the denial that one day, it could be you, who serves the same purpose to those that come after you.”

“Fun” fact: chainsaws (not a forestry chainsaw, think more of those portable survival chain saws) were invented by an obstetrician to more quickly separate the pelvis for difficult childbirth.

Also consider: electricity, germ theory and anaesthetics were not developed at this point.

Na na… The osteotome is a blade(if you want to call it that) with cutting surface on both sides. It is the bone saw

          Osteotome

          Bone saw

Apparently Google says both of them of as osteotome, but my medical books never referred to them as such… So who knows

Maybe i lack an adventurous spirit but if someone told me they climbed Mount Everest, I just think their privilege is showing and apparently are the type to invent problems that don’t need solving.

    [off topic]

“High Crimes” is a graphic novel about a disgraced Olympian who now carries dead bodies off Everest for a high fee.

There are many things I can get a kick out of and have played with in my mind, like seafaring. But climbing a damn rock, which just gets colder while it’s getting harder to breathe? No, thank you.
