I had played Diablo II when I was young. I’m not a big Diablo fan, but I’m attracted by this new release, and I’m interested to play with my friends.

I can’t decide that I should buy a PS5 version or PC version. Here are some pros and cons I’m thinking about.

  • I don’t have a powerful gaming PC yet. Before I made my decision of a new PC build, I may need to play with low quality graph (EDIT: I already have a PS5).
  • I could buy a pre-owned PS5 Disc, which is cheaper. If I don’t like it, I could trade-in the disc.
  • I don’t have a PS membership right now. I know I missed one promotion in early June. Is the membership necessary for playing Diablo IV?
  • If I need to organize my backpack, will keyboard&mouse be more convenient than controller?
  • I have a Steam Deck and I want to use it for some causal play. Proton or PS Remote Play, which works better?

Thank you for all your suggestions.

EDIT: Considering the suggestion by @LemmyAtem@beehaw.org, I’ve purchased the PS5 version so we could enjoy the game together in the living room. We also confirmed that, without PS+, it’s okay to play solo.

Diablo IV runs great on the Steam Deck and low-end PCs. I’d lean toward PC since you don’t need to pay every month for for online access and it will work on your PC and Deck.

To be completely honest, it makes almost no difference which you buy.

    • Crossplay is already enabled, so you can play with your friends in either environment.
    • You can play remotely from a PS5 or on PC from Battle.net (via Steam). I own the game on PC and do this currently. It’s seamless.
    • You can build a PC or get a PS5 for around the same price (between $500-700 USD).

I’m not certain if you can run D4 natively in proton since you have to play it through Battle.net, so if you’re relying on your Steam Deck for the short term, I’d go with a PS5.

Good point about crossplay (also cross-save through bnet); it’s platform agnostic from that standpoint. I’ve been on PS5 and found the console experience to be pretty good. The game plays well on a controller.

This may/may not be helpful, and seem obvious, but try to think objectively about your situation, and ask yourself “which one will I play more?” I know that seems dumb, but it’s helpful! For me personally my PS5 is in the living room, and my wife likes it when I play out there so she can still talk with me/sit with me…unless I’m playing multiplayer. Then she likes it better when I’m in the other room so she’s not listening to one side of a conversation or get startled when I yell or laugh etc. Also, did you play the others mouse/keyboard? Is that transition going to be too difficult? I’m personally at an age where I hate playing mouse/keyboard because I use both all day for work.

If you have Steam Deck, maybe PC is the way to go simply for convenience and portability - but will you actually play it on your steam deck? It requires always online I believe, so you can only play where you have a connection and for me personally, that’s not typically when I use my deck. But that’s where everyone’s situation is different.

      Thank you!

“which one will I play more?”

This is a brilliant question. My PC and PS5 are both in my living room. However, if I play on PS5, it’s easier for my wife to look at me, and laugh at me dying :)

I know Diablo IV is a always-online game. I don’t expect to play it when I’m outside. I expect to play Diablo IV in bathroom or during insomnia (well, I know it’s bad for my health)

IMO plug your PC into the TV and call it a day. If that somehow isn’t possible (you PC and TV are in the same room, it shouldn’t be a problem), I’ve heard the steam link streaming stuff isn’t too bad when on the same network and most smart TVs have this app.

I asked myself the same question and went with the ps5 version because i have a 4k monitor and my PC isn’t beefy enough to power that thing. I played almost 100 hours with all my friends being on PC and had zero issues. I played all previous versions on PC and I don’t want to go back to keyboard and mouse. Only reason for me to go with the of version would be the steam deck.

The Playstation version has couch co-op but requires a ps plus subscription to play.
The pc version will run on a steam deck but since it’s a battle.net game it takes a bit of work to get it running.

I doubt inventory will be too much of an issue on console/controller. I’ve not tried myself but the interface seems decent and I’ve not seen anyone complain about it being annoying.

Thank you! That’s a relief for me to when considering PS5 version.
