Attached: 1 image I just released a really important Apollo update that adds the ability for users with remaining subscription time left to decline an automatic refund. Devs pay refunds out of pocket, and this will be about $250K, so I thank you for your consideration. ❤️ Also, this update includes an amazing "Goodbye Apollo Wallpaper Set” for your phone, tablet, or desktop, created by outrageously talented Apollo icon designers. You can unlock the pack with a donation that helps with refund costs. 🙂
Damn, what a great guy. He doesn’t just make it easy to request a refund that he needs to pay from his own pocket. He actually made it opt-out. I’ve always used RiF on Android, never used Apollo. But Christian earned a lot of my respect in the last few weeks. Fuck Reddit and fuck how they screwed the people that helped them build the platform into what it is today.
opted out if mine and got the wallpapers. Incredible loss to the iOS ecosystem.
It’s my mobile app and their main one sucks. I’m a casual but frequent user. I’ll miss it but I’ll find the next thing.
How do you get the wallpapers?
Nvm I found it and donated.
Class act.
I donated a few bucks to get the wallpapers because Christian is a boss but them all being Snoo-based I just couldn’t find my self to use them.
Same, my hope is that with people opting out and the wallpaper he shouldn’t have to pay much, if anything, out of pocket.
He is still gonna have to pay an ovscene amount of money, that app is going to put him in debt.
I think that given how forthcoming Christian’s been with this entire situation, if he were in a position where he could not feasibly put up that 250k it would be communicated. It’s no small amount of money, sure, but I think he’ll be alright. I can’t speak for anyone else, but if I was someone with an Apollo sub, I would refuse the refund without even thinking about it. Hopefully a large percentage of subscribed users agree with that sentiment, and in that case the cost should drop substantially.
Yes, not everyone is going to get the news that it’s turned from a loss of income into a debt due to the nature. And dare I say there may be some out there who would still consider it as “he knew what he was getting into”, although I hope that’s a very small percentage.
I’ve bought a few indie games before that I thought were groundbreaking achievements, even though I never really played them much. Also have purchased a few licenses for apps when I only needed the one because I felt the dev wasn’t charging the full potential of the thing.
I was first gonna call him moneygrubby but man 250k. I would be sweating and crying. Imagine making an app only for it to anus you in the ass, all of the effort evaporated and swindled.
Dude is gonna have to work overtime like the dude that bricked people’s switches.
anus you in the ass
Isn’t that where it’s supposed to be though?
Dude is gonna have to work overtime like the dude that bricked people’s switches.
I’m curious, got any more info on this?
Gary bowser was a hacker who got arrested and was forced to pay a £1.5 million fine. He was part of a hacker group called team executioner, they made mod jailbreak chips for the switch.
The chip also bricked your switch it if you didn’t pay them a monthly fee.
Why would you take this as “moneygrubby”? He made it the default to opt for the refund and just added the ability for you to chose to not request the refund as a token to his development.
I thought it was similar to an ebegging move but I didn’t realise how much money the guy is gonna have to give back.
The guy needs a way to make all of that money back and is probably going to be in debt for way too long.
I was considering staying on reddit for awhile but it’s become more and more clear that reddit don’t want us, so I’m going to migrate over here and to the other platforms. It really sucks what reddit is doing and they are just hurting themselves in the long run. I doubt reddit will just die out but I’m not going to sit back and watch one of my favorite places om the internet become even more autocratic.
It’s been a long ride but fuck it.
Welcome! Spread the word and create content please. Non-reddit related content, preferably.
Declined the refund and picked up some shirts and pins from his merch store. $250k is a lot of income to lose out on, so hopefully any bit helps! Christian deserved it for all the work he’s put into Apollo the last decade. At least his legacy can live on through the influence he’s obviously had over the design of the Lemmy iOS apps.
Thanks for the heads up about the merch store! Sadly most of the pins were out of stock but I picked one of the remaining ones up. I wasn’t an Apollo user, I used reddit is fun, but this seems like an appropriate memento to have, and I’m glad to support Christian.
I updated the Apollo app last night. Not only will I decline the refund, I also gave a $10 tip too. If you have a bit of spare cash I would suggest as many of you that can, do the same to show our appreciation, and it may help to cover costs for those that still accept the refund option.
I don’t see the decline refund page. But I changed my apple id into another mail address. I’ve contacted him since there’s no way I can decline now. Hopefully it can get stopped. But it took me some time to realize that i changed my apple id 😅
Or just tip him the amount of the refund.
I can’t get the option to decline the refund. Anyone else having trouble? What an I missing?
I can’t find it either. Updated and saw the option to buy the wallpapers but not the one to decline the refund.
Did you buy Apollo Ultra for life? I believe the refund opt-out is only available to timed subscribers (as opposed to lifetime members).
No, I just bought Pro.
I’d didn’t care about the wallpapers so gave him a tip instead.
I can’t get the pop up to appear! How do I decline refund
