The more you buy the more you save LMAO
Caveat: it’s wccftech, there’s a non trivial chance they just pulled this story out of their arse.
Edit: thx @SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone for the verification. You da MVP
It was also published by The Information, which has more of a solid reporting history. Their reporting was followed up by Reuters, so I’m gonna put this in a “likely” category.

I can see why someone wouldn’t post a link to the article from The Information since it’s paywalled.
lol lmao even
Chase that dragon, NVIDIA!
Nvidia and overheating. Name a more iconic duo.
Intel and overheating.
Athlon Tbird and overheating but now I’m dating myself
I consider this rather foreboding for their SFF 5090 release. If anyone is getting one, seriously reconsider getting one from another manufacturer, the guy in charge of overheating concerns got thrown out the window.
The consumer cards will have a double flow through HS, so they could behave completely different than crammed racks. Still, this is sketch, and many things about this generation need to be watched before purchase IMO.
People who’ve gotten samples are claiming that it’s basically like having a hairdryer in your system. This suggests that normal GPU positioning will interfere even more with the CPU in an air-cooled system. People might need to consider switching to AIOs, use specially designed cases, or just buy one of the water cooled 5090 partner models just to make sure. In normal configurations the extra heating is liable to affect CPU, RAM, and potentially even M.2 performance.
People stick x90 cards into SFF cases? Seems almost counterproductive.
I have a 4090 in a sff I don’t have any heat issues it runs cooler than my 2080 did
The 4090 FE was doable in larger systems.
But I really doubt a 5090 would fit in anything considered SFF. Even stretching the definition to the max.Apparently the 5090 is the same length as the 4090, but only two slots. Maybe it’s taller but it’s hard to tell. That siad cooling the rest of your system will be much more of an issue with almost 600 watts getting blown around in there.
Lmao who could’ve seen THAT coming?
Anyone who remembers the release of the 4000 series would have expected this. Upon release multiple releases were frying.
That was because of the connector and not because of over heating.
Just use AI to fix them. 😂
Blackwell blackwalled themselves?
Blueballed
Oh no. Just yesterday I’ve seen an article about Blackwell PCs and what not.
You’re telling me it’s not ready?
That they lied to me?
How could that happen?
Oh no God no!
I can’t wait for destkop computers burning houses.
I bet more in-office days will fix it right?
Yeah this isn’t happening.
d’oh
