    I always heard that the criminals would restore the data, else they kill their own business plan. So this is surprising to me.

      I came here to say this. If I have only a 7% chance of recovering my data after paying, I’m better off not paying.

    I work in this field for a living. This number is bullshit, most organizations get their data back after paying…

    Think about it. What is in the criminal’s best interest

      This would benefit them if they have to cover data loss. They increase insurance fees.

    Hmm, I’ve always heard the opposite, and that they even go so far as providing tech support to help restore the data after paying. If word got out that they didn’t restore the data after paying, no one would pay.
