There is one faint god ray shining into these roadside puddles. Rally is (and always has been) open to smaller developers. In particular, the low-poly indie racer Art Of Rally has been favourably received by dirtsters. And Parking Garage Rally Circuit offers similar Sega Saturnesque drifts around high-rise parking facilities. There’s also the lesser-known Old School Rally, and the illegal rally racing in My Summer Car. Uh, provided you know how to build an entire car from scratch. We have a list of best racing games too, if you fancy that.

Personally I see Rally as an addition to the package. Without, normal non-hardcore-sim racing games lack in variety for me. I love dirt racing, but if the game Im loading up is only that, it loses the flair/appeal of a slick racing game

The modern standard of course being Forza “unskippable-ingame-ad” Horizon.

The problem is that games like Forza Horizon and The Crew tend to not really have rally, they have “racing on dirt.” A key feature of most rallying is cars are leaving with determined gaps so your performance is based only around your driving ability on the course. Forza Horizon still has all the drivers start together so blocking and etc… comes into play.
