“Late Antiquity” is too vague to be useful.
“Early Middle Ages” is perfectly descriptive and is logically the best choice.
“The Dark Ages” carries negative and untrue connotations. However, it is the coolest sounding one, so we should use it.

I’m imaging an episode that’s more like Time Team where Daniel breaks out his trowel after the top layer has been scraped off for a trench and we just check back in with him every now and then to see how he’s going and if he’s made any finds.
