From the same series of paintings that has Saturn Devouring His Son. Goya lived alone and was getting a bit stir-crazy. These paintings were found painted directly onto the walls of his house after he passed. The walls were carefully taken down to preserve and display the paintings.

It makes me exceptionally sad. Probably a combination of knowing more about the period of his life he made those paintings and from just seeing a good boy all alone.

I love the interpretations of the dog by Francisco Goya. They’re all like 'he’s drowning in quicksand’ or ‘it expresses desolation’.

Any person who’s had dogs knows that dog is begging for food.
