Block CEO and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey wrote in an X post on Sunday night that he spent his weekend creating an app called Bitchat (presumably a combination of the words “bit” and “chat,” and not the other combination of words that it looks like).
Briar is Android-only and BitChat is iOS-only.
A quick search shows a few other cross-platform candidates: https://www.geckoandfly.com/22562/chat-without-internet-connection-mesh-network/
So something that was already made multiple times over but now with Techbro bullshit in the mix. Amazing.
So many options out there for this already. Whyyyyy make another one? Just contribute to one that already has been built and make it better Jack. You’re so fucking close to being a good guy, but you just can’t figure it out.
Because venture capital will control this one if it catches on
Sounds like it will be
proprietaryalternative to Briar. It’s licensed under the “unlicense” which is public domain adjacent. But yes Briar exists and I’m not sure what this really does any better that’s any more usable. It’s at least interesting to see that he may have finally understood what decentralized actually means with this though. And competition is always a good thing even if it’s over things that are mostly useless to the public.
My bad. The article didn’t mention the license, but they compared it to Bridgefy so I assumed it was the same crap.
Fair assumption given that it’s Dorsey.
Should’ve called it “Meshchat” or “Bluechat”.
I got a spot on the testflight. Seems interesting but no one around me using it to test :)
free open source software gets downvoted but musk spam is tolerated. Lemmy liberals are fuckin weird
