Radical Extremist religions don’t just pop up out of nowhere. There are priests that are pushing the radical agendas for their own gain, and for the gain of their religion. They may not even be in that country.
It’s always in a country’s best interest to stop religion before it takes over the country’s government and replaces it with a theocracy.
This is a legacy of the previous Malaysian govt pushing religion hard as a way to divide the population and retain control. Of course this was bound to happen, but those in power got rich and fat in the process.
I’ve never understood why people flock to religions that don’t even theoretically help anyone. Appeasing the local rain spirit so your crops get water? Sure i get that. Sucking up to a tyrant that wants you to suffer? Fucking why?
Nothing good comes from the abrahamic religions. Not spiritually, not theoretically, not practically. It’s a set of religions based on evil.
