What us the context of this? Was there a heated discussion about USB standerds? I suppose it doesn’t take much to anger your average redditor.

Their dumb AI summary doesn’t do context.

I was looking at how to pick a master lock that’s this big beefy (~700g) padlock and the AI summary said that the lock was a great choice to just keep in your pocket in case you need it.

Turns out, it directly lifted that phrase from the Lock picking Lawyer’s video on the covert companion picks (a small, almost keychain sized set of lock picks).

the dumbest part is whoever typed in that question…not the AI response

the question wasn’t even asked properly…it’s honestly a stupid question

that’s just shit ai, not doubting or denying that

but if you ask a computer something like ‘how big is my house’…you’re going to get dumb answers. ask things like how big is 'this exact address ’

the question initially asked is WAY too broad so naturally, you’re gonna get broad dumpy answers.

I’ve asked questions in this way before because a lot of times it’s easier to get the “how to find out” answer from that kind of query than from asking “how do I know how many USB ports my motherboard has” and then wading through all the ads trying to sell you motherboards, and all the people saying “lol noob rtfm,” and so forth.

That’s a reasonable way to search in general but…not for this question lol

You literally just look at the physical object in your possession. That’s how you can tell.

If people need a search engine to remember that you can count, common sense really is dead

Fair; I think the one potential oddity might be if you have an internal USB port that’s intended to run to a front-facing IO or something, but it really does seem like the easier way to figure that out would be to just open the case up and look.

Only if you’re experienced enough to know what all types of USB headers look like.

This seems like a fair question for a noobie seeing if they can add some ports without extra pci cards or hubs. I know I’ve ran searches for answers that are sitting in my mobo manual because a digital search is lazier than physically flipping through pages.

Oh, that’s a super fair point. It wouldn’t look like a USB port, it would just be a random gpio header or something, wouldn’t it?

I’m not super familiar with building hardware beyond watching, like, Linus Tech Tips.
