Saw tons of comments the last couple days about “Where’s the NRA to defend trans gun owners huh??!?”
Well here’s your answer - they said 2nd Amendment rights are for everyone and due process matters. Sometimes being cynical is just hurting your perspective.
Eh if all Trans people where black the NRA would have a different tune.
We’ll see… first it’s trans, then it’s gays, then it’s immigrants and now the nra lost a bunch of customers. They’re thinking big picture.
They banned guns when the black Panthers had them.
The NRA did not do that. California did that.
Is the NRA normally transphobic? They defend gun rights. This threatens gun rights.
First shot across the bow at taking guns away from Trump/MAGA dissenters and political opponents. They start with a group they don’t think will incite too many, particularly the generally pro-2A Americans. Next it’ll be gays, then anyone with any connection to antifa, then just Democrats in general.
My sister is looking at rifles now to complement her carry pistol and my friend’s wife has OK’d him getting a handgun for their home from this news.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Pistols
The Pink Pistols is an LGBTQ gun rights organization in the United States and Canada. Their motto is “Pick on someone your own caliber”.[1]
I expect that this is kind of up their alley, too.
For some reason I always thought their slogan was ‘armed gays bash back.’ Maybe I’ve just seen stickers on things of that slogan paired with Pink Pistols logos a lot.
That motto is pretty badass honestly
How long till they start legally labeling all trans people as “mentally deficient” or declare them all no longer citizens just to bar them from having guns?
Well obviously, the only thing the NRA has ever cared about is selling guns. They may couch it it reasons like freedom or safety but the real reason has always just been profits.
Not really, that happened in 1977. See the “history” section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Rifle_Association?wprov=sfti1
Well, not exactly https://www.history.com/articles/black-panthers-gun-control-nra-support-mulford-act
Also ironically the gun laws that Republicans poke fun at in California are thanks to Reagan.
The Mulford act was passed in 1967, when the NRA was still a nonpartisan organization that promoted gun safety and responsible ownership. In 1977 there was an internal coup that replaced the leadership with a group of second amendment extremists (or gun industry shills) who proceeded to turn the NRA hard to the right.
Yes that’s the theory of why capitalism good by liberals
“without due process”.
There’s their caveat.
So if a trans person is arrested and adjudicated as being mentally ill, the NRA is totally OK with that.
Due process means a trial. If someone murders a bunch of people the NRA will not necessarily back their 2A rights.
The NRA is all "motherfuckers still calling us out about the Mulford Act (which was also Republicans targeting marginalized gun owners), we’re not making that mistake again…"
Except that one time in California when black people were arming themselves.
But, but, due process would take too much time… (that’s what their excuse for ICE is)
Ah, but this isn’t arbitrary!
You’re one of the largest and most powerful lobbying groups in the country. Let’s see them actually put that lobbying to work. Then I’ll believe they’re actually against this.
They were, recent events have changed this.
“Even” the NRA? They’re the last ones who would support a gun ban.
Nope, the “even” is important. The NRA supports gun control when minority groups are buying guns.
In contrast to the NRA’s rigid opposition to gun control in today’s America, the organization fought alongside the government for stricter gun regulations in the 1960s. This was part of an effort to keep guns out of the hands of African-Americans as racial tensions in the nation grew. The NRA felt especially threatened by the Black Panthers, whose well-photographed carrying of weapons in public spaces was entirely legal in the state of California, where they were based.

Where are all those commenters who said the NRA is anti LGBTQ?
We’re over here thinking the NRA has noticed how much flack they still get for the Mulford Act, which was the previous time they collaborated to take second amendment rights away from a marginalized group.
