I’ve been after kingfisher photos for a long time, and previously only have had very blurry ones. Today my luck changed! The bird was still quite a distance away, but I’m still delighted with the results.

Nice shots. I have understand the stalk. They just laugh at me and fly away when I get in range. A friend said the kingfisher is a punk rocker
Talking of punk birds:
On Stalking, and this advice is nothing new:
-
Always take a photo when you first see them: it may be better than you expect, and you’ll at least have something
-
Wait, they may come back. Failing that, come back the next day at the same time if you can, and try again: many birds are creatures of habit
-
Never directly approach: go at an angle
And on punk rockers: well, there is something very different about kingfishers, that is for sure, very few British birds are that flashy
-
Oh boy, and I thought my 150-600 Sigma tele was expensive :D Very nice shots
Never mind the cost, feel the weight …
Unfortunately, weight in a camera lens is not a good thing.
Yeah, mines already a workout with more than 2kg. How does yours clock in?
Allegedly only 2050g, but it feels a lot more!
Crazy, that it weighs less while offering 200mm more zoom. But I got my sigma for 600€, so I can’t complain
I’m sure there’s a variety of “solutions” to the optical problem of this sort of zoom, with differing cost, weight, numbers of lens, stabilisation, optical distortion, and distortion from amount of glass on the paths.
And if the bird isn’t in the right place at the right time, none of it matters :)
True
Awesome pics! Top right is gorgeous
Very cute!
It reminds me of that meme with the guy waiting in his house on the swings
They just pose so well for you if you can catch em on a nearby stick like that😄
Beautiful shots, friend!
