    Never been a fan of this movie. It has some eugenics themes, with the world of the story being dysfunctional because people became inherently inferior. The really scary part about our current dystopia is that things suck without people being dumber than we’ve always been. It’s not a simple issue of intelligence, but culture, dominant societal scripts, and systemic issues. Comparing reality to the movie ironically takes the most simple minded viewpoint possible; people are just stupid now and weren’t in the past.

      Seems like you don’t work in a service industry

      I feel like I’ve been watching cognitive decline online and off, basic critical thinking skills are slipping.

      And now we’ll have a generation raised with LLMs :)

        And yet, that decline in particular is mainly cultural. When people are depersonalized by capitalism, service workers get treated as disposable robots instead of humans with lives and dreams. This isn’t because people are dumber, but because of the context we exist in. This context is not stable and can easily change.

        As far as LLMs go, they’ll probably have an effect similar to an irresponsible friend who encourages whatever a person believes. Unlike the enabling of harmful behavior that cults or gangs cause, it’s personalized and individualistic. That said, it still has a similar effect on how it drives people bonkers more than any mental illness or handicap.

      I can’t say you’re wrong, it’s just that things can turn out unexpectedly, all it takes is one major disruption in the food supply and everything will change so much that people won’t even know what to do and will have no choice but to accept the mark and become digital sheep.

      These are of course my thoughts, although I’m not the only one who thinks so. But I respect your opinion.
