Recently I maxed out my “Watch Later” playlist on YouTube. Turns out you can’t have more than 5000 videos in it

Ah fuck, that’s me. Here’s a transit app severely underestimating my walking speed the other day (that’s a meter, not a mile)

The things you own, end up owning you.

Delete it all and accept the transitory nature of existence.

      That’s a morbid take, but I agree.

I don’t usually delete stuff on purpose, but I am not as diligent as I “should” be about backing all my data. Sure, I back up the most important things, but the rest of it I won’t really miss if it gets deleted.

For example my Bookmarks/Saved Posts/Watch Later/Read It Later lists, they sometimes get deleted when I move devices and I don’t bother restoring them even when I can. Most of the things I add to those lists I know I am never going to read/watch. I add them anyway just to be safe, but I don’t feel bad if I don’t ever get to them. There’s only so much time in this world.

I created my first email account in 1999, and it’s the one I use for just about everything to this day. A couple of weeks ago I got fed up with constantly reorganising it. No number of rules or folders really solved the problem. There was just too much shit in there, and I have too much shit in my brain as it is. I deleted all of it. Saw a few flashes of emails to my childhood friends, from my first girlfriend, deceased family members. For a split second I thought “shit, no, these are my memories”. But no. Not anymore they aren’t. You’re free.

At least in Starfield, I do get to see them again when the game uses them as a load screen. Which makes me wonder if I can throw any old picture in the folder it saves those in and have all sorts of possible load screen images… 🤔

Quite a few good follow-on jokes in this thread, but the frequent screenshotting behavior begins to acknowledge something we can leverage into a powerful tool for learning.

All one needs to do is complete the last steps in what is the beginning of a Zettelkasten system, the first step having been collecting the information (the screenshot).

Firefox has this android app called screenshot go, that automatically reads all the text in all your screen shots and makes them searchable.

Something like that for desktop would be cool. Especially if it could be done in an open standard that makes well with others.

Evernote had that for a long while, but as I understand it they’re moving to a new revenue model and lots of people are unhappy.

There might be a plug-in for Obsidian.md which provided a great Zettelkasten environment.

In a few years I will have an ai that will do that for me so there’s zero need for me to do anything about that. hehe

Lol, those are rookie numbers, I have around 350.000 screenshots from all the time I’ve been using smartphones and I still keep taking screenshots. I don’t exactly plan on checking them, they’re just like a calendar/journal of my digital life, but with images.🙂

I think that’s a beautiful way of thinking about it. One of my favorite “on this day” posts on Facebook was a random screenshot I took of something in college. I didn’t crop it so I can see my entire bookmarks bar and a lot of other stuff. It’s very nostalgic seeing it. Keep on screenshotting! Future you will thank you!

Just gotta be careful not to overdo it… I’ve kinda lowered my screenshot taking rate as I have stopped using some apps.🙂

I really need to sort my “SORT ME!” folder instead of adding to it …

    Adding this to that folder.

Me downloading this meme knowing it will end up unlooked at, just like the hundreds of memes before it.
