  • Are you from America where you have never heard other English colloquial terms? Not being a dick, just asking. Because took in is a common phrase I heard in the UK, like I took in a lodger. And caught doesn’t always mean captured by surprise, it can be more subtle like a moment in time, like I caught a glimpse of him searching for food scraps. Shortened to I caught him eating scraps, etc. Meaning visually.
