  • Did anyone catch the slip during a speaking event where his attorney was in frame while he said they told the court that Mar-a-lago is worth $18M but it’s really worth $1.5B? That was a day or two before the jury determined the amount of damages award. She looked a little shocked and upset that he said that.

How amazing is it that while he is being tried for crimes, he doesn’t even stop criming in ways that prove the prosecutors’ cases for them? Proves he doesn’t even believe his defense that he didn’t break laws, just that he’s immune because of accidentally getting elected.

  • Used to watch a lot of sailing channels. One popped up in my feed and I liked that they were essentially noobs, so they detailed their learning experience.

Then one day, they mentioned how they had homeschooled their kids back in Texas because something something trans people are evil.

Unsubbed and marked the channel “do not recommend” in SmartTube.

With some creators, I actively avoid knowing about them. My partner loves celeb gossip, and I don’t. They used to ask me things about my favorite musicians’ personal lives, and I always reminded them that I enjoy the music and I don’t want to know them. That’s harder to commit to these days.

Joss Whedon? I still love Firefly and Buffy and Dollhouse, but I’m pretty crushed that a hero of mine in the “strong female leads” department is such a POS to his actors.

I just finished a months-long movie marathon of our favorites, and we were saddened by how many of those movies are Miramax (Weinstein) productions. Sigh…

  • It’s on Lemmy too, of course.

The other day, I was reading an article linked from a post using an account on another instance that I created while my registration was pending here.

By the time I finished reading and returned to the lemmy post, it had been down voted to -7 and the only two comments were about how the topic was no good because the article source was known low-quality.

After reading, I didn’t detect any evidence of their claims, and found the information was well-sourced, though the writer was admittedly biased in their conclusions. I suspected the commenter didn’t read, and dismissed it based on the source alone.

I asked what about the article they had found objectionable, as I found mostly factual reporting of issues that should be discussed. They proceeded to attack me and my character, rather than address my comments.

Made me want to never comment again. There will always be those who seem to want to be the arbiters of what should be discussed or how or by whom, and they will always resort to any means they deem necessary to ensure their echo chamber is well-tuned to their liking.

  • Sorry to hear you’re depressed and hiding your true self. ((hug)) I can relate.

I moved to the tropics last year, and here, pride “month” is actually pride week, in August. I’m not really sure that I should come out to my neighbors here, as this place is still sort of 1950’s in its views on gender roles. A male friend recently apologized for doing dishes in front of me with, “sorry I have to do this woman’s work.”

It’s hard settling into a new country, and I’ll have to see how I feel when the time comes.

38yrs bi, but only about 6yrs proud of it. At least I can say that I’m happier repressed in the tropics than the US Northeast! 🏳️‍🌈
