  • Neo-liberal ideology is one that succinctly calls itself socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

It’s pro-capitalist believing in laissez-faire economic policies, minimal government guidance, regulation, or oversight. Economic policies that do not restrict the accumulation of wealth, expansion of business, reach of business, its regulation. Believers often talk about the hand of the free market guiding it.

Social policies, it ranges from moderately conservative to moderate in general. As long as they do not hamper the free market economy. Equality but not necessary egalitarianism. So examples include increase in police funding, promotion of private institutions along with public ones.

They believe people should be free to move among the social levels through merit. Also austerity is a big part of it. Big players in recent times have been Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. Both parties were neo-liberal until the time of Newt Gingrich then the Republicans started to turn toward reactionary politics more and more.

Neo-liberal does not mean leftist/ism/, socialist/ism, communist/ism, and anarchist/ism. Such ideologies are at odds because they believe in best of a regulated capitalist socio-economic policy to outright its rejection.
