Asked just after the incident if he was ashamed, Braun replied: “Those who take part in acts of satanic worship should be ashamed.”

I can maybe see one branch of Abrahamic religion calling another heretical, but calling any of them satanic seems like a pretty difficult claim to make.

he’s a catholic fundamentalist (so: against abortion, LGBT rights, sex ed, and divorces), monarchist, full on crackpot (climate change denier, covid denier and antivaxxer, he even denied that smog exists) and his activities align suspiciously with russian interests. do you really think he cares here about theological details?

People like that usually have no clue about their own religion and far less about other religions.

A while ago there was a post about Netanjahus controversial speech where he referenced the story of Amaleki. And the poster seriously said that Netanjahu shouldn’t be allowed to quote the christian bible…

In general, people who completely disregard the second highest commandment given by Christ himself (love your neighbor as yourself) are not christians and shouldn’t be allowed to claim they are.

in this context, “satanic” doesn’t mean anything other than “non-member of the in-group against whom I have endorsed violence”.

I think “satanic” is being used in an adverbial sense, rather than as an adjective. By this, I mean that worship that is satanic in manner, which in this sense, means not Christian. By contrast, satanic (adj) worship would be something that actively involves worship of Satan or Satanism.

That being said, I’m probably thinking about this more than he did.

Which still doesn’t make sense as Christianity essentiallu evolved from Judaism. They worship the same god (well, the Christian 3in1 god throws a wrench in it a bit but it is still the one god supposedly)
