Much of the plot for “Just One Damned Thing After Another” by Jodi Taylor. British humorous scifi / historical fiction, pretty good at it too. Fair warning, it starts the “The Chronicles of St. Mary” series, which is quite long.
ACKSHUALLY they’d be scrolls. Maybe a couple books that are heavily guarded.
Srs tho, I think it would be better to time travel with an attack helicopter.
Book can refer to individual scrolls; ‘codex’ is the proper term for what we call books in the modern day.
