The pieces they stole were just really pretty. It makes me sad that they are going to broken down into bits rather than end up in some Bond villain’s vault for the next hundred years.
I wouldn’t be certain about that. If all you want is some gold and gems there should be easier ways to go about it than stealing priceless jewelry from the Louvre. To me it doesn’t seem unlikely that some crazy rich guy wanted to have the pieces even despite knowing he could never tell anyone he has them

Isn’t it possible that they were stolen to order and someone has them intact?
Why? I don’t think some shitbag like Musk, Thiel, or Zuckerberg keeping historical artefacts in some secret vault would add to the story. I hope they’re just regular people stealing for their own gain, not on behalf of some villain.
