Well, this is one of the rare weeks where I am not playing anything on Nintendo consoles (well, just Switch, in my case).
Finished Remnant: From the Ashes. Really liked the game, and they say Remnant 2 is even better. So, adding that to my wishlist.
After finishing Remnant, I was feeling like playing some action oriented game, so instead of going back to my paused games, started going through my backlog to see what clicks and ended up starting Ghost of Tsushima. It’s a really good game. Visuals are fantastic, game looks absolutely stunning. Combat is fluid. And on PS5, there are no loading screens. Not when starting the game, or when fast traveling. Feels nice.
What about all of you? What have you guys been playing? And what are you planning to start next?
Completed the story part of the Pokémon Teal Mask DLC and mostly completed its pokedex as well (just need one other version exclusive and one trade evo… I hate trade evos…), so I will probably mostly be going back to finally finish Tears of the Kingdom or playing my PC strategy RPGs, with small checks for raids featuring those last two pokémon every so often. I started one of those strategy RPGs last night, Symphony of War. Billed itself as more of a Fire Emblem clone but actually pulls more from Langrisser, IMO. Just advertises with the Fire Emblem name for recognition, probably. Anyone else here know Langrisser? Picked the remakes of 1 and 2 up on the eShop a couple years back but I admit I didn’t get too far in it. Might be another thing to look at going back to after TotK.
Congratulations on finishing Pokémon and the Pokédex…
I haven’t played Langrisser, though I was interested in it when they announced the remake of 1 & 2. Never got around to it though, and since the genre is now going through the revival and there are so many new games coming out, probably won’t really get around to play the older remakes (remasters?).
Pokémon. Been playing it for the whole week. Almost done with the story and I have completed most of the Pokédex
Nice. Good luck with completing the Pokédex! And if you need help with getting the trade evo one, @Grangle1@lemm.ee here has just finished the DLC. 😀
Thanks.
Finished Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe!
This was exactly what you’d expect from a Kirby game: Fun, easy and relaxing. It’s very similar in structure to the 3DS games, so if you enjoyed those you’ll probably like this one as well. I was also surprised by how fun are all those minigames included, I spend quite some time messing around in the theme park.
Finished Cat Quest!
I didn’t expect I’d enjoy this simple hack-and-slack game with a ton of cat puns as much as I did. It’s somewhat repetitive in nature, but short enough that I never got bored of it. Definitely worth picking up on a sale, and I’ve already bought the sequel to play later.
Started Persona 5 Strikers!
Trying to transition back to story-focused games, so I picked up something that seemed like a middle ground.
So far I’m impressed. The developer really tried to keep the same “feel” as P5, with a lot of RPG elements, mechanics and themes adapted from the source game, and way more cutscenes and story sections than I expected.
Speaking of story, I’m loving it. It’s sorta derivative from P5, “go into the metaverse, beat the villain’s shadow and make them change their ways”, but adds a lot more interactions between the party as a whole which is one of the main things I missed when going from P4 and P5. The “road trip” plot also adds a good variety of locations and situations.
Biggest issue I have with the game is the lack of some obvious QOL features. Worst one is the checkpoints - if you can go back to the real world and get a “refill” of HP/SP or access the shop from any checkpoint without any drawbacks… then why not just make that option available on the checkpoint itself and spare me going through a bunch of loading screens?
I loved Cat Quest. Didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. The sequel wasn’t out when I played it, and then I heard that sequel is more focused on co-op, so I didn’t get it, but with Cat Quest 3 releasing soon, thinking about playing the 2nd part anyway.
If you do play it before me (99.9% that’s how it will happen), do let me know how it is when playing solo.
That’s nice to hear about P5S. I wasn’t into musou games, but playing Age of Calamity changed my mind. Though, from your description, it looks like this isn’t actually a musou game, is that right?
As for Kirby games, I haven’t actually played any, they just seem too simple, and everyone say they are very easy, so I never really got one. The latest 3D one, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is on wishlist though. Which one would you recommend I start with? From the ones available on Switch - NSO or otherwise. (You are becoming my go-to guy for recommendations about genres and different series. 😀 )
If you do play it before me (99.9% that’s how it will happen), do let me know how it is when playing solo.
Will do!
Though, from your description, it looks like this isn’t actually a musou game, is that right?
I’m not very familiar with the musou series, but I’ve seen people describing P5S as “musou lite”. You have those sections where you are hacking at hundreds of enemies that people associate with musou, but in PS5 that is mixed with a lot of investigation, exploration and story sections.
Which one would you recommend I start with?
Forgotten Land is a better game IMO, unless you want the 4-player coop in which case you should go with Return to Dream Land.
Thanks for the info!
I would most probably be playing solo, unless my kid wants to join in.
Ah, if it’s just the two of you then Forgotten Land also has 2-player coop. :D
Yeah, we can try that, if he can get away from Fortnite. 😀
I’m American and on vacation in Japan. The dollar is so strong currently that it’s about $35 per game (or less if you get tax free ones) rather than $60/70. I haven’t played them yet, but I grabbed Splatoon 3, Mario 3D World, and Mario Kart 8 (which I own for Wii U but at this price… I can justify it lol). I’m excited to play on the plane ride home!
Besides that, just “finished” Pikmin (platinums everywhere, and 100% everything I can think of). It was really good! Much more content than other Pikmin games.
lol, I almost deleted the comment thinking it’s spam. Felt like those “earn from home” ads. 😀
That’s really good. Did you also get some Japan-only stuff? Any collectables etc? Just curious.
Congratulations on finishing Pikmin! Which one are you going to start first?
Haha I re read it and I can see that! I’m not spam or selling stuff I swear!
A bunch of non-game collectables. A dope Zelda shirt, some stuff in the Pokemon Center in Osaka (my long time favorite mug for home is this tiny Pikachu one from there like a decade ago and I got another one that’s similar!), and wild colored joycons (I had one full die on the plane ride over). Even the plastic part with the strap on it are fun colors, and from Nintendo themselves! They’re purple with yellow, orange with green.
Good question! I’m not sure yet. I really don’t know anything about Splatoon. It has a solo mode I assume? Mario kart will come in waves for me I think
Hey, if you want to sell any of that cool stuff, I won’t mind. 😀 That’s a nice list of stuff, and those JoyCon sound pretty cool!
Good luck!
Oh man, I loved game hunting in Japan. If you haven’t, I’d recommend grabbing some Japan exclusive physicals like Super Robot Wars series, Okami, Final Fantasy & Ace Attorney. There are also a lot of Limited Run releases that have a Japanese/Asia region physical that are tens to hundreds of dollars less than the North American versions.
Ooooo Super Robot Wars would be dope, good call. Any suggestions on stores to find stuff like that?
I went to probably every store in Akihabara hahahah. Super Potato is the most iconic chain, not sure what part of Japan you are in.
Since I’ve finished Caligula Effect 2, I started the Baten Kaitos Remaster today! The plan is to beat the first one, use Super Mario Bros. Wonder as an interlude, and then jump into Baten Kaitos Origins. Which would have been fine, as I expected to play Baten Kaitos normally, without trying to complete it. But alas, the game has in-game achievements so… “Ah shit, here we go again!”. And the 300% game speed option does NOT affect card evolutions, so I’ll have to let the game idle until my shampoo has been in my inventory for 336 hours because that’s normal, right? That’s what normal games ask normal players to do, right?
But there’s one more amazing thing I need to share. So the remaster only has the original Japanese voice acting, not the hillarious English one. But apparently, the opening cutscene before the title screen is English in both versions anyway. Except the overall quality in the Japanese version is better than the English one? How did that happen? Why did the developers of the Japanese version hire English voice actors for that intro, despite all the same characters being voiced in Japanese in the actual game? And if that was so important to them, why were they fine with the localizers getting their voice actors from the bargain bin instead? It’s all so bizarre!
I also started playing We Love Katamari Reroll as my B-Game on the side. Not much to say about it yet, but I wish there was an easy way to see all the stages with target times for their ‘good’ endings and what’s still to collect in them.
How did you like Caligual Effect?
Heh, that is an interesting way to do things. Could be some publisher / marketing thing. They probably made the full game, but then someone decided making the opening cutscene in English would attract more people or something. Or maybe they changed the plans. Would be interesting to know what actually happened.
So, there’s an actual achievement which require you to leave your shampoo in your inventory for 336 hours? Or just trying to show the outrageous nature of achievements?
The achievement is to have all Magnus (cards) in your collection. Some cards evolve over time, like fresh green bananas that deal damage becoming regular bananas that heal and later spotty bananas that deal damage again. The shampoo card is one that, in its description, says you should try using it for two weeks. And they mean that literally. If you have that card for 336 hours, it transforms into a card called ‘Splendid Hair’. It’s not even a useful card, it just also unlocks the last few tracks in the music collection for some reason. It’s legendary in how stupid it is.
And yes, there are 100% speedruns of the game that take slightly over two weeks!
Caligula was okay. I enjoyed the plot of the first one more, but the sequel was a lot easier to complete all sidequests in. For the record, the first game had over 500 NPCs each with a quest and most of them were roaming around certain areas, whereas the sequel has far less and you can easily look up where they are.
Ah, that’s a weird achievement. At least this means I wouldn’t have to worry about achievements, I either go for all, or don’t care about any of them.
Wow, 500 NPC, and each with a quest? That seems like another game which I won’t be trying to 100%
Apparently only Fzero 99.
I tell myself I’ll stop and play something else, yet I keep launching it….
Hehe, it’s an addicting game. What’s your record? I haven’t touched it in few days, but I was still in 50s when I played last.
I thought getting a win would lessen things, I think it will only fuel more, hah!
Do you mean rack? I’m almost ready to move out of class A.
Nice!
More DW11 for me. Can’t get enough. 😊
Haha, cool! I paused the game again. Just not getting enough uninterrupted time to play it. Mostly playing games that I can close anywhere I want.
Hope to get back to it after GoT though.
Interestingly enough, even on PS4 GoT had near instantaneous loading times. In an interview it was due to their focus on visual style. Most biomes are composed of singular plant types to get the vibrant uni-color look they were going for. The result was incredible loading times. I played the first half an PS4 then waited for the PS5 upgrade 60fps patch before I finished. So goooood!
Ahan, that’s interesting. It’s nice when devs think of these things. I wonder what they will make next.
Rumor is it’s GoT2. I think there were some job listings
GoT 2 is fine, though I hope they would go for a new IP after that, instead of going straight to GoT 3. Personally would prefer that they do another IP before coming to GoT 2. If not a new IP, inFamous or even Sly Cooper would be cool.
I think a lot of PS Studios have been branching into 2 pronged studios. So they might have a team for GoT2 and then another for something new.
Na, if they do that, it will be for live-service games. I don’t believe Sony (under Jim Ryan) will increase their single-player games output. They will keep the pace of SP same as now, but their focus now is on live-service.
Started Diablo 3 season 29 and trying to finish up Mario Odyssey!
Oooh! Diablo 3 is still getting more seasons? I though they may have stopped after Diablo 4.
Are you trying to go for 100% in Mario Odyssey, or just going to complete the game?
Good luck!
Lol no I’m just trying to clear my backlog . Metroid prime and Totk are waiting for me patiently ….
Yea season 29 will be the last diablo 3 season that will add new mechanics it seems. Then they’ll rotate contents from season 1 again I heard …
Ah, interesting. Thanks for the info.
I wish to finish Blasphemous for once 🥲🥲🥲
How are you liking it? Got stuck somewhere, or just taking a long time?
No I liked it a lot. I got stuck for a bot and then work happened. Want to pick it up again
Kinda all over the place. Blasphemous 2, Sea of Stars, and Halls of Torment.
Nice list!
Is Halls of Torment like Vampire Survivors?
Yep. Very solid take on the genre.
Ahan, cool. Will keep an eye on it, in case it comes to console some day.
Oh, sorry, I don’t think I realized I was on /c/Nintendo. Though it’s always hard to know what past me was thinking, hahaha.
lol, we don’t mind. This thread isn’t limited to just Nintendo console, as you can see, in my post I talk about Ghost of Tsushima.
