@nostupidquestions Do you always have either dead pixels, loose charging port, or broken hinge with Acer laptops?
Acer travelmate 4070. Used as a control unit for a cut and bend machine. (Don’t ask me why)… Holy shit that bastard has outlived around three of the machines that began work with it.
What I’m saying is. Acer was good. But like all things enshittification ruined it.
HP though… I don’t think I’ve ever seen a good hp. Even the ancient ones. I feel like the only HP stuff that saves itself are calculators and some of the old testing equipment
HP has been up and down.
Years ago they were great, then they were shit, then they were good again for a short while.
I wouldn’t touch 'em today, but I’m a laptop snob and only go for the pro lines in Dell or Lenovo anymore. I have friends who spec systems for companies, and those have the least issues and are more maintainable than others.
Take apart some laptops, and you’ll come to appreciate the pro lines from Dell and Lenovo. I inherited an HP laptop, it was challenging to open without breaking stuff, and little is replaceable - the opposite of my Dell and Lenovos.
Out of our three recent acer laptops only one broke, the case around the hinge cracked while in a backpack traveling. I don’t blame acer for it.
No. Mostly because we don’t buy Acer laptops.
My father had an Acer laptop. It broke.
One of my friends had an Acer laptop. It broke.
I think my father had a 486SX Acer laptop which worked wayyyy past its reasonable age, but it’s in the closet and the hinges look crumbly and I kinda fear that if I touch it it will be atomised.
Me, I’ve used Asus laptops since 2011, and these things are only slightly less resistant to nuclear explosions than Thinkpads

I had an Acer as a work laptop some years back. It was fine, though I didn’t use it that heavily, so maybe issues would have come up if I did. Also, maybe there are worse now.
For personal use I’ve generally bought Thinkpads and pounded the crap out of them. I’m currently thinking of getting a Lenovo Yoga if they go on special Black Friday again, but I have trepidations.
Can’t really say about modern Acer laptops, but I had to deal with few relatives Acer Aspire laptops through lifetime. Oldest one, Aspire 5315 still works perfectly, even battery still holds some 30 minutes of charge. Then there was Aspire 1410. It got broken keyboard, with dead keys. I did really cheap replacement, but then battery completely died in sudden, from holding few hours to not even turning on without power brick, with new battery price being too expensive. The last, Aspire 3(I think from 2019-2020) got dead touchpad after few years of use and it’s screen plastic frame melted marks into low body.
I did however saw that Aspire 3 charging port looks really small compared to others, but there were no issues with it.
Only experience I have with them is one my mom got around 2008. Pretty quickly developed issues with the charging port. Returned it and have avoided Acer products ever since.
We have the broken hinge, but we’ve just adjusted to it. It’s always open because we’re afraid we’ll snap it if we close it.
The last three Acer laptops I purchased (due to price for specs value) each broke within a year. I no longer buy Acer.
