Three Palestinian teenagers released in a recent prisoner exchange were abducted by Israeli soldiers while seeking aid and tortured in custody, a new report has revealed.
In interviews conducted by the NGO Defense for Children Palestine (DCIP), Mohammad Nael Khamis al-Zoghbi, 17, Faris Ibrahim Faris Abu Jabal, 16, and Mahmoud Hani Mohammad al-Majayda, 17, described how they were abducted by Israeli forces near aid distribution points and transferred to the notorious Sde Teiman detention camp in southern Israel.
They said they endured torture, beatings and starvation in Israeli custody. The trauma has left them unable to sleep, and they are plagued by night terrors and bed wetting.
One of the boys said he felt his detention had “stripped away his childhood”.
Jabal, who was abducted along with his father while seeking aid near the Morag Corridor on 11 September, recalled being so badly beaten during his interrogation that his forehead “split open and required stitches”.
As bad as I’m sure this is. No teenager says something has ‘stripped away their childhood’. One simply doesn’t have that perspective until they are grown up.

UN Report Details Vast, Systemic Torture of Palestinians in Israeli Detention
“Welcome to Hell” is a report on the abuse and inhuman treatment of Palestinians held in Israeli custody since 7 October 2023. B’Tselem collected testimonies from 55 Palestinians held during that time and released, almost all with no charges. Their testimonies reveal the outcomes of the rushed transformation of more than a dozen Israeli prison facilities, military and civilian, into a network of camps dedicated to the abuse of inmates as a matter of policy. Facilities in which every inmate is deliberately subjected to harsh, relentless pain and suffering operate as de-facto torture camps.
I think you missed the point.
Or ya, know, until they’ve had an experience so horrific that it gives them that perspective.
Sure, I obviously don’t know the horrors of what they went through. But it still seems off - not something a 17-yo would say regardless; it’s something an adult who has seen kids grow up normally might observe. But maybe it’s a translation / cultural thing.
Maybe it sounds a bit more natural before it was translated.
