It sucks that we’re living through a legit fascist takeover, but at least the fascists are collectively as dumb as a sack of wet hammers.

The current front facing fascists are idiots. The ones telling them what the next move is, behind closed doors, certainly aren’t.

Fair enough, but counterpoint: if they were so smart, they wouldn’t be fascists.

And remember this: the Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

We must continue to fight the wet hammers at every opportunity. We can never relent, we must make their progress difficult or impossible.

They are incompetent, but the piles of money that push them forward is limitless, which means their efforts will also be limitless.

She was the only one stupid enough to actually try and go for it. All the other prosecutors they asked refused, I think some even resigned. She’s a different kind of stupid I guess.

She’s a different kind of stupid I guess.

She’s going to get a dozen book deals from conservative publishers. She’ll land a talking head spot on FOX News. She’ll hook up with Steven Mnuchin’s cousin or get Baron Trump’s baby in her or just marries a party mega-donor. Maybe she runs for AG in Virginia in 2029 and rides in on a Republican reactionary wave after President Pete Buttigieg shits the bed. If nothing else, they’ll be posting jerk-off material of her on Grok for the next twenty years. I’m sure there’s a way to monetize that.

If you think that’s stupid, you’re thinking she’s playing a different game. Her card is punched.

Their version of career skills progression is: “I’ve been faking it and making it. Based on what I’ve learned, I’m going to fake it even harder, to increase my making it.”

The others were real lawyers, and didn’t want to risk their law licenses. But she’s not a real lawyer, with a mind-boggling case of Dunning-Kruger, so she was too stupid to know that most judges don’t decide cases based on which side has a lawyer that might let them fuck her if they let her win, even though they know she won’t.

People debasing themselves and ruining their careers is basically mandatory. Each is hoping for a more important government job or contract after. And if that fails there is always hate-blogging and Fox news.

Okay, but in their defense, Lindsey Halligan is an absolute smoke-show. She’s going to make a great replacement for Jeanine Pirro in another two years.

Wanting: tangent rant incoming about the site, not the article.

JFC, what a horrible source, that site is cancer

    We value your privacy

    Yeah, that is a lie

We and our partners store and/or access information on a device, such as cookies and process personal data, such as unique identifiers and standard information sent by a device for personalised advertising and content, advertising and content measurement, audience research and services development. With your permission we and our partners may use precise geolocation data and identification through device scanning. You may click to consent to our and our 1540 partners’ processing as described above. Alternatively you may click to refuse to consent or access more detailed information and change your preferences before consenting.

Please note that some processing of your personal data may not require your consent, but you have a right to object to such processing.

Well fucking A, I have the right to object, but you’ll do it anyway

Great to know that you and your 1540 fucking partners all together respecty privacy, i feel so much fucking better already!

And mind you, this shit is the best we can get with the gdpr. Without that, it would be a hundred times worse than this.

But okay, let’s reject everything and try to read the article, shall we? Read the intro paragraph, okay, scroll down a little to read the next and boom I now have a search bar covering half of my page? That’s weird, where did that come from? It’s blocking literally 50% of the page, I can’t read shit. How can I get rid of this? Oh, a close button. Let’s naively close this, naively because we already know better but anyway, click… Aaaaaaand it was a fucking ad. Okay go back, reload page, scroll down aaaaand half the page blocked with another ad

So as you might have figured, this browser didn’t have an ad blocker (using Lemmy connects internal browser here) andr the site is completely and 100% useless, I can’t read it on a mobile device. So why even bother, then?

I’ll be adding themirror to my permanent block list right now, I won’t ever be able to see anything from that site ever again. I suggest you all do the same and that we add themirror to a list of banned sources for this sub or, better, this instance.

I’m so SO sick and tired of the crap that is now the internet. I gettit, these guys too need to earn a living, but there are better ways to set this up.

Let’s make a world wide independent foundation funded by all governments and that one can pay news organizations to write news. The only rule should be “be independent and truthful”. This is just a single dumb example, I’m sure there are even better ways but FFS, anything is better than this shit

I’m getting to the point where I think I’ll build a web scraper that will just take out the text, maybe a few relevant images, and the render that into a page that shows just that. I know a few sites that can already do that but I’d like something for myself, just self hosted or something.

Yes, it’s the middle of the night and yes, I cannot sleep and yes, this pisses me off because I just wanted to read some news to relax but instead I have to furiously rant because these fuckers again didn’t know that enough should be enough

    /Rant

The best part was that after Comey’s case was dismissed, the Goldigger Whore Press Secty promised that this wasn’t over, then Comey’s lawyer (who is an actual real lawyer, not like the DoJs lawyer) announced that the statute of limitations has run out, and they can’t touch him.

Basically: Case over, go fuck yourself.

So when they say “dismissed without prejudice”, does that mean they can in theory be file charges again, but really they can’t because SoL has lapsed?

Correct. In theory, there is a law that grants an extension to the statute of limitations in cases where an indictment is filled in time, and subsequently dismissed.

However, it is not clear if that is applicable here because one of the problems here was that prosecutor messed up the grand jury so badly, that there is a reasonable argument that Comey was never actually indighted.

This isn’t likely to come up, because the other result was a ruling that Trump cannot keep on appointing interim US Attorneys, so the prosecutor to bring charges would either need to be Senate approved, or court appointed.
