This has happened a few times in my life. Feels kinda like when you use a muscle wrong and it starts cramping, just that in this case I somehow swallowed wrong. At least it doesn’t last for very long. Once my leg started cramping while I was half-asleep. Fuck that hurt for what felt like 5 minutes.

Shit. My first cramp was when I was lying in bed half asleep. My left calf started cramping, but I had no clue what was going on. I was too scared/in pain to attempt to touch it. I just stated in pain for probably 5 minutes but it felt longer. That shit sucked.

Now I can recognize it when it first starts and massage the fuck outta it before it gets really bad.

I have identified certain positions and stretches that are guaranteed to cause a muscle spasms, and try to avoid them.

I have to sleep with my feet over the end of the bed, in an L shape, because if I sleep with my foot extended, I WILL get hit with a screaming cramp out of a deep sleep. No matter how big a bed is, I have to sleep toward the end, so my feet can hang over.

I also have to be careful stretching. Calf muscles are always vulnerable, but it’s easy to pull a muscle along the ribcage that will ache for a week or so.

I’ve cycled from in shape to out of shape and back again several times in my life, but being prone to muscle spasms has been constant throughout all of it.
