What’s even better, a few months ago one of Libya’s chief torturers, Almasry, was detained in Turin, because there was an outstanding ICJ warrant on him. The Italian government quietly sent him home on an Italian intelligence plane before other agencies caught wind of his capture, until activists blew the whistle. Nothing has been done about it, with the Italian government heavily implying that they need Libyan terror to keep boats from crossing the Mediterranean.

I can’t shake the feeling that the current US policy towards LatAm aims to establish something similar there. OFC Venezuela in particular is also about oil, but there are so many parallels between both border regimes already.
