Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released a batch of 68 photos obtained from the estate of Jeffrey Epstein on Thursday, one day before the deadline for the Trump administration to release a much larger group of Epstein files.

The photos come from a trove of 95,000 images the committee received last week, the Democrats said. The release includes images of lines from the novel “Lolita” written on a person’s body; various travel documents; a screenshot of text messages about an 18-year-old from Russia and more. The photos can be accessed here.

The Democrats released several dozen photos last week, showing various high-profile figures including President Trump, former President Bill Clinton, Woody Allen, Gates and others. Neither batch of photos implicates any of those pictured in Epstein’s crimes.

… why are we still fixated on this? We know what happened. There will continue to be no accountability on the ruling class. How about we focus on the present problems?

Lolita is an (in)famous novel about a man’s obsessive sexual attraction to a prepubescent girl. It’s supposedly well written, but the content is abhorrent.

Seems to be the beginning of the second paragraph of the book…:

She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock.

      Which in the book continues with…;

She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.

That novel is so beautifully written that I wish it was about something completely different so I don’t feel dirty while reading it.

English wasn’t even Nabokov’s first language! That’s insane!

The line immediately preceding this one is beautiful:

Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.

Yeah, they said that in the antitrust trial in the 90s. It was horseshit then and it’s horseshit now.

Billionaires never see justice for the same reason no one has ever seen the easter bunny. Justice doesn’t exist. Just a legal system designed to punish the poor and minorities.

or that at that level, they can influence local, state and some national politics in a way the common man just can’t touch; purchasing the people in the roles for “law enforcement” there’s just no one that can do it.

          it feels incompatible with democracy.

It is important to remember that simply being in a photo with Epstein isn’t evidence they were a part of what was happening or knew about it. Being at the same generic rich person party as Epstein isn’t damning by itself.

Epstein traveled in elite circles and obviously wanted to flaunt that access as much as possible. He was everywhere the money was, he worked in Finance for decades.

Likewise, almost surely not all visits to his Island were related to his sexual trafficking business.

Context is important, and that’s why actual investigations into all of these connections are important as well.

I can think of very few names already connected, pictured with or involved with Epstein whom I will feel any loss if they happen to suffer in the court of public opinion.

The very worst people in the world are going to leverage the fact that not everyone named or implicated was actually doing anything with minors or hurting anyone, and I’ve lost whatever fuck I had to give a long time ago. Everyone who went there is a rich asshole in some way and this is consequence.

And yeah, I am including the fucking scientists as well. Fuck Kraus, fuck Hawking’s memory. I am so done with the world being divided into classes of people who can get whatever they want, and people who die from preventable illnesses because they can’t afford health insurance.

I wish my anger was as contagious as it is on the right, we would already be marching together to physically remove this fetid, evil administration.

Lemmy intellectuals will attack this take, and they will also be the people who listen to the arguments from the world’s most evil people and their lawyers and say “We need to hear them out, we have a system with rules.”

Towards a class of people who live above the rules and have no system other than wealth and power. Our “laws and rules” are designed to control the population, not the donor class, not the elite, not the ones who have never known hardship. People who can systematically abuse others for their own satisfaction are ruining whatever potential our species had, in my opinion this isn’t just an ideological or legal issue, it’s fucking existential.

So you assume that every dog in existence has fleas? Can’t be around any dogs whatsoever at any point for fear of getting fleas? Shitty analogy for the situation.

Better hope none of your old friends from say high school or college that you haven’t seen for years end up being sexual predators at any point in time. Might have photos taken with them that others will see and assume you knew what was going on because you were with them. Especially if they were doing that at the time.
