I got some excellent feedback from y’all last year, so let’s do round 2!
A bit about me: I’m an Apple software QA engineer (yes, we exist) and I’d love to hear about bugs you’ve encountered. I can create bug reports internally (aka radars) and/or bother the right teams/people to get issues fixed. To be clear this is not official company business, thoughts/opinions are my own, and I’m doing this in my free time to keep Lemmy awesome and because I love you guys.
Alt/throwaway account for obvious reasons.
IMPORTANT PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING:
- iOS/iPadOS, macOS, & watchOS issues only. Please ensure that you are running latest public release (
26.4.1) or latest beta (as of today that’s26.5 beta 3). - Please provide detailed step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce the bug. Vague reports such as “battery life bad” or “UI laggy” are not helpful. So yes, that means you should ELI5. If I don’t have enough info from you, then there’s a good chance I won’t be able to reproduce it on my test devices which in turn means I can’t report it.
- Provide hardware details in your report (i.e. model, year, device specs)
Things I can’t help with:
- general UI/UX complaints, use the feedback form for that.
- 3rd party (non-Apple) accessories, hardware, or software. This includes monitors, keyboards/mice, thunderbolt docks, cameras, etc.
- Issues that only appear sometimes or randomly. If it can’t be reproduced consistently, then it probably can’t be reported. Unfortunately I can’t just tell the devs I saw a ghost 👻
General Disclaimer
I can’t guarantee that anything I report will be fixed and due to the nature of how we work I won’t be able to share status updates, but I’ll certainly try my best to shuffle things along internally.
Please don’t ask about upcoming hardware/software. Whatever it is, I have no idea what you’re talking about and no, it doesn’t exist.
Thanks and looking forward to hearing about what’s been bugging you 🐛
edit 1: added sporadic issues to things I can’t help with.
On iPadOS, with dark mode, when you use back gesture in safari at the edge of the screen, the whole UI glitches to a white screen. The flash startles and is very annoying.
Has been happening ever since 26.
Notifications can expose message content due to iOS storing previews in sys logs. Privacy is a fundamental right, as Tim said many times. This should be a P0
fixed in
26.4.2! https://support.apple.com/en-us/127002Privacy is a fundamental right, as Tim said many times.
Tim is about as truthful as a lying psychopath, because that’s what he is
OP is one of the Apple employees that seem to care. Corporate has its procedures, and filing a P0 will require someone to make the decision if this is a welcome backdoor or if it’s going to get fixed. Insults might feel good to blow of steam but are rarely helping with progress.
iPhone 13, 26.4.1. Volume buttons and software controls stop working and a hard restart is required. Sometimes doesn’t happen. Sometimes happens multiple times a day.
Edit: Here is somebody else with the exact same bug as me, video included.
I solemnly swear that even in 26.3.1 it is not reading my keypresses properly.
I used to type like a fiend but for several years the typing experience is degraded. Is is multitouch somehow trying to read something between my two thumbs?
Also that period key that appears when I’m in the URL bar but typing a search with spaces that are all suddenly dots and it thinks it’s a malformed URL? OMG move it or kill it with fire.
This should be fixed in 26.4 I believe according to reports.
Yup this was addressed in 26.4
Oh I have a very specific one for you buckle up haha. So one thing in macOS that gets progressively better and worse over time is actual multi-monitor support. It’s fine but I swear either no one at Apple uses multiple monitors or everyone actually has only cinema displays arranged in a horizontal line haha. I have used OSX/macOS for a long time and it was much worse for a long time but had gotten pretty workable then BAM around Tahoe or so arrangement is buried in some menu now and I’m not sure the function of the row of displays actually is now? Anyway, it’s mostly great, this is the one thing that apparently turns into a rant haha! Okay two things, bring back eGPUs on Apple Silicon :D
no one at Apple uses multiple monitors or everyone actually has only cinema displays arranged in a horizontal line
when I walk around the office I see most people with either 1 or 2 monitors. Very rare to see 3+. No Cinema displays haha, those are antiques. We’re mostly using studio displays & lg ultra fines, and yes, arranged in a horizontal line lol
bring back eGPUs
heh, wouldnt that be nice? noting for the record that there is now a semi-official way to use egpus for ai
This drives me crazy at work -
So I use an iPad and the files app to markup PDF’s on a network drive/SMB share, however if you have a poor/weak network connection while editing the PDF it will not save even though it claims to be saving.
This will persist until the iPad is forcefully rebooted, but by then I’ve already wasted 20-30 minutes re-marking it up and trying to get it to save with no luck.
I’ll get the model name when I get into work, but it’s one of the newer models.
Edit:
- iPad Pro 13” (M4)
- iPadOS Version: 26.3.1 (a)
- Model number: MVX33CL/A
I‘m a bit sceptical if a real Apple employee would come to lemmy to ask users about their experience , but I‘ll take any chance so this can get fixed:
Sometimes, notifications for upcoming calender events just don‘t work on iOS , which is very frustrating. It‘s completely random, whether they will show up or not. I‘ve gone through every troubleshooting step with no luck. Weirdly, I never have this issue with reminders.
I‘ve had this problem since iOS 26, I can‘t say if it is fixed with the newest version (26.4.1).
My lightning AirPods Max don’t wake up on their own if they’ve gone into deep sleep while plugged in. I have to unplug them and plug them in again every single time I use them (I have them plugged in on my desk in the case when not in use)
My M2 iPad Pro hitches every single time I enter the App Library when it didn’t do that prior to iPadOS 26.
The background in MacOS turns black when swiping over spaces with fullscreen apps while in Mission Control.
Latest software all around.

Thanks for sharing, I’m seeing this too
This is amazing thank you. Just the other day I asked myself “who do I complain to?!”.
I was going to report a memory leak or I/O performance bug in iOS Photos when editing many live photos in one app session (rotating many photos - PS. you can’t easily batch rotate a selection of Live Photos without utilising Shortcuts and compromising on output being a single static image) leading to exponential save times for subsequent photo edits but I tested on latest iOS and this seems to be fixed now.
I have 3 frequent problems bugs with my iPhone that I would love to solve, especially number 1. I’m using an iPhone 12 mini and and iPhone 15. Both are updated and have all problems listed.

A black screen when trying to open the camera from the lock screen. After pressing the camera button the screen turns totally black except for the orange light indicating that that camera/mic is in use. After about 10-15 seconds or so I just return to the lockscreen. My partner has the exact same problem. Happens often but haven’t managed to recreate it.
-
When pressing up on volume and almost instantly after pressing the lock screen button the volume maxes out. I mostly have this problem when my AirPods are connected and I’ve managed to recreate it on purpose multiple times.

Connecting to CarPlay, with or without wire. Is it a thing that this just struggles from time to time? That you connect to the car - can play music via the wire/bluetooth, the phone is charging if using wire but CarPlay won’t start. I’ve had it with with two cars and different phones, I know friends that have the same problem.
Thank you for taking your time!
A black screen when trying to open the camera from the lock screen.
No luck trying to repro. Tested repeatedly with an iPhone 15, lock screen camera button has been working fine for me.
When pressing up on volume and almost instantly after pressing the lock screen button the volume maxes out.
Any more details on this? I connected my AirPods too, haven’t been able to repro; I mostly just ended up taking a bunch of screenshots by accident.
Connecting to CarPlay, with or without wire
Probably won’t be able to help with this unfortunately. Needless to say, I’d need access to your car 😬

Thank you for doing this!
Edit: oops this is UI/UX (though a bug), feel free to disregard
Wifi SSID display issue
100% reproducible I think (cosmetic and super niche): WiFi networks names with emojis in them won’t display properly in the command center. I think it’s been like this for 10 years. The emojis are drawn but they are completely gray (you can see the outline and they are filled with a single color). Not adding a screenshot for privacy reasons (but will boot up another network if you need me to), the SSID is in the format « emoji emoji text ».
One I haven’t been perfectly able to pin point: Sometimes while scrolling left or right on the calendar app, events will appear out of place on a subsequent day or week, usually keeping the placement of the previous screen but with the content of the new days. It’s given me a scare once or twice. Things get back to normal if I scroll fully to another day/week and back.
I’ll try to see if I can reproduce this better.
Edit: remembered what the issue was
Here’s a tough one: Why does Home turn on both of my LG TVs random times of day, both at the same time, even in the middle of the night. LG support pointed towards Apple about this, and indeed it stopped right after I deleted both TVs from my Home app. I have a ton of iOS/iPadOS/macOS/watchOS/tvOS devices so impossible to tell which of them might it have been, if any, but they all are running ~latest public versions, and macOS is ruled out by not being on on couple of occasions. Checked that there are no Automations or Shortcuts etc. anywhere.
This is almost as infuriating as when Apple Watch on my wrist used to (not lately anymore) wake me up in the middle of the night saying it has updates it can install, not respecting my Sleep mode absolutely-no-notifications setting. And there not being a ”Install update when put in charger” option instead of the ”Install this night” (but yeah this is dumb UX not bug)
That sounds frustrating. Probably won’t be able to help with this unfortunately as this involves 3rd party products. Basically I’d need access to both of your TVs
Dunno if this counts as a bug but the way the priority works for audio streams always seems to fail. I can never understand which audio streams my media keys will actually work on if I’ve opened multiple. For example closing a YouTube video and having Apple Music open will still just grab the media keys so they don’t actually affect Apple Music. Been a pain point for a long time and still is on macOS 26.4.1
Love this. Submitting bugs directly to Apple was extremely frustrating, I stopped years ago.
My iPhone 13, on iOS 26.4.1 often hangs when attempting to unlock the phone. No faceID unlock attempt (that I can see), nothing. I pick up my phone and/or swipe up the lockscreen and I’m stuck looking at my wallpaper with nothing else. I have to relock the phone and try again before I can use it. It’s extremely frustrating. I deeply regret updating from iOS 18
My iPhone 16 Pro Max does not have this issue
Haven’t been able to repro this with either an iPhone 13 or iPhone 12. Any other details you can share?
No :( I wish I could reproduce it more reliably but it seems a random. only thing more I can add is that it has 78% battery capacity, and I updated straight to 26.4.1 from 18.something
