I’m on vacation at the moment so I haven’t been playing much. Working through Sea of Stars, the Finals, and Spider-Man 2.

What about you all?

I bought the MGS Master Collection last week and played through MGS this weekend. I know the consensus on the collection is quite poor but it was really interesting playing through a PS1 game to see a slice from the console. I didn’t have a PS1 and most of my friends had an N64, so I had maybe 10 minutes of exposure to MGS around the time of release, and was too young to appreciate it.

Anyway, I can see why it’s so well regarded. The camera work, cinematics and script/voice acting were phenomenal. The music was also a standout element for me that I enjoyed more than any other old game in memory.

I had MGS2 on Xbox but didn’t really play it much, so I’m really looking forward to restarting it this week.

The only problem with the collection was it didn’t had much improvements from the original, and people were hoping for more upgrades. Otherwise, if you just want to play the original games, collection is pretty good for that.

I can totally understand that – especially since the regular price is 20EUR/game, or 60EUR for the trilogy+bonus content. It is a steep ask at that price, especially looking at MGS by itself.

I think PS1 graphics are really nostalgic, but having an option to toggle on a cleaner presentation like in the Halo MCC would have been ideal.

I did get it on sale though, so I didn’t have a problem looking past the lack of enhancements.
