Most of the right side of the “parking lot” is a public boat launch and RV Park/Dump location not related to SeaWorld. Another part of it is walled off facility storage (it has shipping containers) and SeaWorld company vehicle parking.
Everything to the left of the SeaWorld is unrelated parking for other businesses (one of them being a SeaWorld corporate building) and a marina.
Still a shitload of parking, but a very very misleading Facebook or whatever bullshit post
I expect this to get a lot of negative input, but the Orca’s free roam space is actually 3x the size they’ve highlighted. And granted, it’s really small compared to the oceans of the world, but someone’s purposely lying, and to make the point they don’t even need to. Just had to try to get the multiplier to move a tiny bit more, like that would be the sway point.
Still not sure what people expect SeaWorld to do with the orcas they currently have. Should they all be shot? Is that better for the orcas? They would starve to death if released.
I don’t think a habitat three times the size of a dot is going to look much better compared to the parking lot. Or, you know, the ocean.
What always looks good is the full truth. Lying about small stuff means you cannot be trust with important stuff.
I think i said this on some other post from my alt account and got downvotes to oblivion. I’m glad hivemind today is up voting facts.
Also didn’t SeaWorld agree to stop using orcas recently?
“We have elected to stop tormenting one specific species of animals. Please pat our corporate heads.” Fuck zoos and aquariums.
Do they still have other live animals besides the orcas?
Are you asking… If an Aquarium have other live animals? What else would they have? Did you mean mammals?
My understanding was that SeaWorld has been pivoting from aquarium to theme park for a while now.
But also yeah it’s far less of a big deal to keep fish in captivity as long as it’s done by Marine biologists.
Yeah there’s loads of reasons to hate seaworld, but cars aren’t really one of them.
#teamorca
Have you seen how we deal with factory chickens? In comparison this orca is probably lucky.
There’s no limit to human cruelty against animals.

against animals.
Where is their car parked?
Oh my god, that parking lot is 2 times the size of the actual park itself. How can anyone look at that and think “yes, this is good”?
So there’s a couple things at play here.
- The post is kind of BS since that whole area isn’t just SeaWorld’s parking lot (see other comments for more info).
- The amount of parking spots a business must have is regulated. On average it’s about 4 parking spots for every 1000 sqft. SeaWorld Orlando is 200 acres. That’s a lot of parking spots they’re required to have. I agree it definitely ends up being a TON of parking spots most businesses don’t need, but it’s not the business’s fault.
No matter whose fault it is. It’s a monstrosity. Living in the Netherlands, I don’t think I’ve ever come across such a big parking space. It’s incredible it’s not structured the other way around: there should be a limit to how much parking space you’re allowed to have. You can assume there will be a lot of traffic going to such a park, just put up some public transport infrastructure.
Pub lictran sport…? I’ve never heard of this sport. It must not be played in the United States. Sounds like some euro-trash thing.
On top of that, the orcas have 2 holding thanks and the performance tank, and they take turns getting out into the performance tank for more room to swim. (Only one holding tank is highlighted)
Also, Sea World stopped taking wild orcas a while back, so the adults there were likely born there and couldn’t survive in the wild.
So to echo everyone else, this post is wrong, but yeah, fuck cars.
I feel like this is the same for any animal species. Does someone has a map of world’s land use for human activities ?
maybe this one ? https://www.nature.com/articles/s41597-022-01284-8/figures/2
Not for the whole world, but someone recently posted this map of Germany here:
Source: https://x.com/cvictordus/status/1791961219143766322
From top to bottom, left to right, the bigger areas say:
- Energiepflanzen → plants grown for generating electricity
- Vegetation → vegetation, just the random plants around the place presumably
- Pflanzliche Ernährung → plant-based food
- Viehfutter → forage, i.e. plants grown to feed animals (which will mostly be used for animal-based food).
- Siedlung + Industrie → industry and the places they build to house workers
- Wohnen → housing
- Verkehr → traffic (presumably parking + roads etc.)
- Rest → remaining, unclassified areas
- Wasser → water
- Wald → forest
So, we do have some areas where animals can hang out, mainly forests, but as the map you linked points out, essentially none of it is wilderness either. The forests are commercially used and suffer from monospecies trees.
I thought Sea World got rid of all the Orcas after the bad publicity from the movie Blackfish.
“SeaWorld still has 18 orcas in its three US parks, and offers a variety of experiences with them. In 2016, SeaWorld announced that it would end its orca breeding program and phase out orca shows in response to the death of orca trainer Dawn Brancheau in 2010 and the 2013 documentary Blackfish.”
I assume they can’t just get rid of the orcas they have, they wouldn’t do well in the wild anymore.
Reminds me of the elephant we saw at point defiance zoo near Seattle WA. Poor thing is kept in a property the size of like 2 or 3 houses.
They cleared out a lot more room since the 90s. I grew up near (and was often in) that zoo as a kid. Cindy was a problem for a few reasons, not just the small enclosure. She was not really trained, never interacted with other elephants, and only had one handler for most of her life. She got violent and didn’t transition well and that’s not a reputation zoo animals can have.
From what I remember they finally moved her out, razed a whole section of the zoo, and now they’ve got somewhat adequate space for a pair of elephants. Still not great but Cindy’s situation was rough and a shame.
I think this year that zoo finally will reopen the south pacific exhibit after realizing the 1800s british explorer look was a little… outdated and needed remodeling.
We went there this weekend and yeah that elephant didn’t do anything other than very slowly toss wet sand on its back due to the heat. Compared to other equally locked elephants at the same Diego animal jail zoo, she looked sad sad.
The elephants were never a great part the zoo, IMO, and what you’re seeing is a remarkable improvement from what it used to be.
The aquarium is the main draw for my family. It is currently the most updated and least fucked for the animals.
The Red Wolves were reintroduced to the wild from the breeding program at the zoo too. It’s a mixed bag that place.
The aquarium was actually really good. I’m sure the bigger sharks are probably pissed all the time but otherwise they were really ample.
Damn that is depressing.
Why do they arrange the parking lots in a weird line shape? Wouldn’t it make more sense to use the space inside the shape delimited by the yellow line?
Fuck orcas, but also fuck cars
What’s wrong with orcas? I mean, it seems like they’re kinda psychotic… but who’s to judge?
They sink yachts, so that’s pretty cool
They also help orphaned children find family and aspirations!
Plot twist: OP is a Walrus.
