Tim Walz has taken on a leveled-up approach in a race to the finish of the 2024 election, after a more cautious and buttoned-up start as Kamala Harris’ running mate.

In the weeks following the vice presidential debate, Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz has been sounding more like the aggressive campaigner who got the role than the buttoned-up figure he’s cut since joining the ticket.

Dressed in khakis and a navy Harris-Walz sweatshirt Monday, Walz delivered some of his sharpest attacks yet against former President Donald Trump. Walz appeared more natural in his latest appearances on the trail, including in his signature flannel in rural Pennsylvania, after shedding the blue sport coat and white collared shirt he’s favored for the last few months.

He’s also getting back on the TV circuit, with appearances coming up on “The View” and “The Daily Show,” according to a campaign official, after Walz went viral pre-running mate selection with his labeling of the GOP ticket as “weird” in a cable news interview.

Been saying it since that terrible debate showing from Biden, though at the time I thought Biden might be able to make a turnaround so I was talking about him:

The only way they’re going to make up ground is by putting politeness behind them. They need to be firm, acknowledge the wrongs, call out the bs, and just generally play hardball. That’s the current need and I’m glad both Harris and Walz appear to understand this.

Convincing Republican voters it’s okay to vote for a Democrat when the Republican candidate is a fascist is a political strategy, yes.

Glad you seem to understand that.

Perhaps it is a better strategy to reject Repubs who might actually convince people who actually vote, and instead go after socialists on lemmy.ml who have all been spending the last several months writing that both sides are the exact same side with zero differences.

No, they’re not saying both sides are the same. They’re shitting on Biden and Harris for the Israeli genocide while ignoring the fact that Trump would have a significantly worse response.

How would Trump be worse on Israel? Israel has already been allowed to expand its war and has faced no consequences for its crimes against civilians. Indeed, democratic leadership in government has rewarded Israel with standing ovations, free cash, and continued arms sales

So how would Trump be worse?

I don’t want Trump to win anything. He sucks. But I want Democrats to feel embarrassed about promoting their party. You should feel gross about it, or admit that you are fine with appeasement policy for Israeli genocide

Go read his and his party’s thoughts. They wrote it all down. Or are you not arguing in good faith and attempting to dissuade others? :)

Former President Donald Trump said that Israel needs to “finish what they started”.

Donald Trump has said that Israel should “hit the nuclear first and worry about the rest later” in response to an Iranian missile attack on Tuesday.

I think it is funny when I hear Trump warning about the violent liberal Marxists that are coming for us if the Dems win, because if the people on Lemmy.ml weren’t Russian trolls, they’d be the people he’s talking about. 😂

I would categorize them as conservative institutionalists. Which, in my opinion, the liberals have an easier time appealing to them ideologically.

Electorally thats a benefit and, thats the minimum we need against fascists right now.

Now it’s the party of Dick Cheney, my favorite war criminal.

So he’s wearing khakis, previously a flannel, sometimes also a sport coat.

Hopefully these are the brave fashion decisions needed to defeat fascism in America.

after Walz went viral pre-running mate selection with his labeling of the GOP ticket as “weird” in a cable news interview.

Insane that this election (and the future of the republic) might end up being saved by one word said by one dude who wasn’t even in the running at the time. And the word is simply, “weird.”

After all of the insane shit we have seen and heard the GOP do and say, a generic white dude that looks like your dad calling them “weird” was what flipped the momentum in the Democrats’ favor.

I just can’t with this timeline

It makes sense. They want to be seen as evil. Evil is scary, it’s threatening, it’s a matter of perspective in some cases. Evil gets his base what they want even if it hurts others. Even stupid is something where they can tell themselves it’s a game of 4-d chess and the opponents just don’t see the coming victory.

But weird? It hits hard. It’s the one thing they don’t want to be because weird implies that they aren’t the majority or masterminds, but rather that they’re dismissible and not acting correctly. Weird is what they hate and so it hurts them to hear the truth that it’s what they are. Because normal people don’t fucking act like that. Normal people laugh at people acting like that, or show concern, or anything but joining in

I don’t know why he started getting all tame and pulling punches during the Vance debate. We lost that debate because we didn’t crush it.

“We lost” to a career politician, of whom does really great with prepared, political settings, but sucks monkey balls at any setting involving normal human interaction. Waltz has never seemed that comfortable with prepared talking points, he’s too much of a dad, and exudes that down-to-earth vibe that hopefully resonates with some voters who don’t like career Democrat politicians, but feel what Waltz has to offer all.

Vance is a politician, Waltz is a neighbor. Vance does well in official, political settings, that’s all.

This feels like one of those games where the QB crushed it in the first half, and just completely fell apart during the second half. Now its up to the star running back to make it happen while the QB is still blowing it.

Your trolling says more about you than it does me. I advocated to swap the candidate for literally months because Biden was an absolute TRAINWRECK of a candidate. There was about a 0% chance of Biden winning this election, and if I recall correctly, you defended keeping him as the candidate, in-spite of the incredibly obvious fact that he was losing the election in a dramatic fashion. You defended him to the point of calling any one asking to remove him a trolls, bots, and Russian assets.

So you weren’t interested in improving the Democrats chances of winning. You were just behaving like an abusive troll. And I called that Biden wouldn’t be the candidate litterally 8 months out. I was right, and literally almost everyone in this forum was wrong.

And for a few weeks, we had a good thing going with Kamala. But she’s shifted to campaigning with neocon’s and being “pro-buisness”, and accordingly, her polling is dropping off a cliff.

She needs to shift back to how she campaigned/ policies she had before and up until the convention. IF she doesn’t, she will lose this election.

But you aren’t here for nuance. You just want to pretend that you are on the right side of anything.

And just as before, you aren’t interested in figuring out what it would take Kamala to win. You are just here to abuse.
