Hey everyone!

We’re about six months into our first books@lemmy.world Book Bingo challenge. If you didn’t know about it, or if you’ve been debating joining, there’s still plenty of time to participate! You do not need to fill a whole card to complete the challenge: ‘bingo’ is only five squares in a line.

If you’re already working on bingo, how’s it going so far? Doing any fun challenges? Having trouble with any squares or rules? Any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated!

We’ll be doing another post in a few months for 2025 bingo suggestions, and a turn-in post at the beginning of April.

On behalf of myself, Dresden, and JaymesRS, thank you for being here, and happy reading!

    green - easy mode
    red - hard mode

“Ancillary Justice” really came in clutch as this was the only book from my To Read Pile
“Ascendance of a bookworm” had Non McGuffin stealing but that was in volume 30 not in volume 32 and 33 that I have read during this bingo. In “The Otome Heroine’s Fight for Survival” every espionage is just MacGuffins so it doesn’t count.
    Eazy Breazy Readzie - I haven’t been on vacation for over a year ;-;
I don’t read romance so LGBT+ with romance is just non existent form me.

Wow, you’ve been putting in work; nice job!

I don’t read romance so LGBT+ with romance is just non existent form me.

Any form of romantic relationship, or romance as a genre? If it’s the former, then yeah, I can see how that’d be tough. I also skipped a few hard modes that just didn’t seem fun/doable (and I’m sure we’ll work on that for next year’s bingo). If you’re not against relationships in your reading, though, then anything with some form of LGBT+ romance that impacts the main plot should count, not just romance/romcom titles. For instance, a couple of things I read this year happened to involve the LGBT+ protagonist reconnecting with an ex for plot reasons; one was a historical mystery, and the other a contemporary fantasy.

Thank you u/misericordiae for posting this.

This year ended up being a hard one for me to keep up with reading, seriously I’ve been on the same novella for a month because of other responsibilities. I’ve got my Bingo and have completed 9 squares. Normally I’m a Bingo completionist (when I was doing r/Fantasy’s on The other site), this year I’m not sure I’ll manage to complete it.

I’m currently at 20/25 squares (16/20 hard mode, 8/20 from pre-existing TBR pile). I’ve been enjoying bingo, but since I’ve focused on it pretty much exclusively, I’m also looking forward to reading other things.

In a couple of cases, I’ve had trouble finding something I want to read (particularly hard modes), so I already have a few notes about improving that for next year.

I have one Bingo (the top row) so far and 9 total squares filled. Definitely not expecting to fill the whole board, but I’m hoping to get at least one or two more bingoes complete. It’s been fun sitting down and seeing what square I can assign each book to as I read!

Thanks for the post (and for all your work on Book Bingo) @misericordiae@literature.cafe !

I have completed about 9 squares (4 hard mode!), and 10th will be done soon. That’s my next planned book. No bingo yet though, but there’s still plenty of time. Have also done one alternate tile, so can just swap it with some uncompleted one if I get stuck.

One question: For 1E: It takes two, can other author be illustrator? Or they have to be the “author”?

Good question! I don’t think we were looking at the square from that perspective. Probably something for @JaymesRS@literature.cafe to weigh in on, honestly. Personally, I don’t think stretching the square to include illustrators is a problem, especially if the illustrations add to the experience significantly and/or in collaboration with the text. Graphic novels and picture books would be the obvious yeses from that perspective, but whatever you think qualifies would also be good with me.

My column A, and row 3, both have 4 squares done. I also have one alternate square done, so I can complete my Bingo any time I want! Going to wait till the end though, may complete those boxes anyway.
