Huawei Technologies Co. will from next year strip its smartphones and tablets of Google’s open-source Android and move devices to homegrown software, broadcasting its ambitions to pivot away from US technology.

Huawei Technologies Co. said that from next year its new smartphones and tablets will run on an operating system stripped of Google’s open-source Android technology.

    China is actively segregating their market from the West, so they can ignore the economic impacts of sanctions when they take Taiwan. Same thing Putin did for decades before invading Ukraine.

    For those who don’t recall Google was forced to block Huawei from using their tech by the US government. It put Huawei in a difficult position especially because they are/were one of the largest Android phone markers by total devices sold.

    So of course Huawei wants to disconnect itself as much as it can from western technology to prevent such a thing from ever happening again.
