Hi everyone. I recently decided I really didn’t like owning a lot of watches, and for my upcoming 40th birthday, decided to consolidate into this Rolex Explorer 114270 from 2017.

I’ve always liked Rolexes from the early 2000s as I feel like they’re a good combination of vintage and modern. This watch really wears comfortably like my old Tudor Prince Date Day, plus it has the tooly charm of my Sinn 556i.

I think I’ve finally found the watch that is “me”: simple, dependable, understated (for a Rolex), and a bit boring.

The explorer is just such a great watch. If I had Rolex money, this is one I’d pick up without hesitation. Beautiful

Congrats on the new watch. Wear it in good health.

I’ve also been thinking about getting rid of all my watches and just getting 1 watch that’s “me”. That was my original plan 10 years ago, but it ended up taking a lot of watches to try and figure out what that is. I’m debating between a Rolex Explorer and the Tudor Ranger as my single watch.

How did you go about selling your old watches? I have about a dozen or so, but never sold any.

Thanks! There was time in between getting this and selling the other ones. I feel like what works for me is just save up and buy the watch I want and then sell those that I haven’t worn in a while. It will reduce seller’s remorse to an extent. 😅

I have a feeling I’ll just never do it and they will sit in my watch box for years, unless I happen across a place where I can just take them all and get cash for a decent price (that isn’t a pawn shop). 😅

The only one I’d probably really want to sell is my Sinn 6000. It’s a nice watch, and my first decently big purchase, but I was trying to get a watch that does it all (chrono, date, 3 time zones). Turns out I like simple watches with just the time, not even a date. That was an expensive lesson… or maybe not, as I probably would have gone with an Explorer II instead of a standard Explorer, if I would have bought a single watch back then.

Yeah, it’s a hassle to sell. Another option is of someone is willing to trade the watch you want with some of your pieces. But be prepared to lose some money.
