Summary:

The whole post seems strange to me, what do you all think?

Cheers, even though I messaged both the mod of the comm it happened in and the LW admin relay bot (and got ignored by both) I’m not sure I can be arsed. Feels like mod action should be more transparent but also, I can imagine that’d be shit to deal with as a mod too.

It used to say the name of the account that did the action. Then the code was changed to specifically hide that. Draw whatever conclusions you will from that.

Hard to say, I want to strongly disagree with it for the obvious lack of transparency but again if I were a mod I’d sorta get it. Cheers for the info.

I spent a couple years as an admin of a massive site, and I refused to do it unless I was completely anonymous.

I really admire the transparency of lemmy, but with volume comes nazis. I don’t have the stomach for that.

Yeah that’s sort of what I was thinking. Maybe assigned mod IDs. So people can still bitch about mods (and have them removed if needed) but not have an actual account to dox/spam with wild shit. No idea, I’m sure people with actual brains could come up with a solution.

Yeah, tbf it’s not that alone but more in combination with both the lack of modmail and how the posts get entirely blocked after removal, unlike on Reddit where they persist for anyone who has the URL. To have all 3 of these at once makes the authoritarianism more similar to what Reddit offers, down at the level of the user experience of how moderation works I mean.

Fyi it was the mod of that community who removed it, and they probably didn’t need to. However, that community is a fairly innocuous one so it’s understandable if they have a quick trigger on removing comments to keep the discussion light and enjoyable for everyone.

Again, I don’t think it needed to be removed, but you could have simply said

Inanimate objects don’t have genders or facial expressions either; so by using a magical thing called context clues they’re probably just continuing the OP’s joke.

And that’d almost certainly have been fine. But the final sentence adds nothing to your point and is probably what they assessed crossed the line.

By all means keep huffing your own farts if it makes you feel better though.

              Something to think about.

I’m not even judging you or anything, you seem like a good user and I’ve done the same shit multiple times, even had several comments removed just within the past week when I let my emotions get the better of me.

Yeah I figured it out but I already messaged the mod first, so it wasn’t worth inboxing them again to bitch about. I agree, stand alone it’s a petty comment and probably wasn’t needed. It was more in the context of who I was relying too. Appreciate your input.
