Christ on a stick, they found a way to remove the black person from the “I’m not racist, one of my friends is black” dogwhistle.

    I fucking can’t.

This sounds like the setup for a deeply fucked up comedy skit, or a Filthy Frank episode, or some shit like that, but nope, its real, its actually happened, the tech industry has invented a new and interesting form of racism.

Digital blackface was one of the first uses for genAI - turning white models or white voices “black” rather than hiring an actual black person

I am sensing a new standup comedy routine where a tablet pretending to be AI has a script to say some of the worse takes while claiming to be different people at different points. And the host dissects the responses with observational humor

I do not agree with the last sentence, but the whole article is worth reading. Thank you for posting it.

But, they just replaced the voice part of the job? Like, track selection was likely still done by a human somehow? Not sure what this is accomplishing overall.

      social constructs

The problem with tiresome reactionary chuds trying to use the language of social justice to fight back is that it is very clear that they have no idea what the words mean, or much about the subject in question at all. There’s this pervasive idea in right-wing circles that you can just use a sort of faux-academic voice and make yourself seem more erudite…”I’ve put the scholar hat on, you have to take me seriously now”. They seem to think that how you talk is more important than what you think or say, and I suspect this is because they have nothing of any value or interest to say, and don’t really think much about anything further than “hurr, non-fascism bad”.

Let’s be charitable and assume you’re coming from a position of honest ignorance. Maybe lurk more, and learn the meaning of the words you’re using before you use them, so you don’t come across as a tedious reactionary doing a philosopher cosplay.

it’d be really weird you didn’t do even a tiny amount of reading into the research by DAIR and other organizations studying the interplay between AI and racism before shitting this post out into our thread, but I’ve seen your takes on transphobia and they’re somehow even more inane so please feel free to go fuck yourself
