A record-setting Norwegian mountaineer has pushed back against claims that she could have done more to save a Pakistani porter who slipped off a narrow trail near the peak and died there after several hours.
Mountaineering is an inherently selfish activity but everyone who goes into the mountains knows and accepts that in the event of an accident they’re probably going to die. Is it galling to climb past an injured person to get to the summit? No question, it’s disgusting. But it’s probably hard to explain to most people the planning and financial commitment of even getting to this location, let alone risking your neck for somebody.
