Just curious… Do you play on a multiplayer server? If yes, what kind of? Do you use a modloader on your client?
Are you playing vanilla or modded? (I consider QoL mods like MiniHUD or Xaero’s Map almost vanilla but ofcourse not everyone agrees)
I play:
- on a whitelisted SMP (I had to look that up… Survival Multiplayer) which is almost Vanilla (you can use a Vanilla client) - aimed at adult players (25+)
- Ocassionally single player just to try out different modded versions or things (I might play create for 2 days and then leave it at that)
- Currently playing on a members-only Create server
Oh yeah, only Java. Never played bedrock. I tried for 5 minutes on my phone and it’s not for me.
I hadn’t played Minecraft in several years until recently, and needed a refresher. So I found a Vanilla+ modpack called Crucial 2 which has been awesome! Great way to get into some modding basics without making the game overwhelming. Playing over LAN with my boyfriend is really fun.
Also beat the Wither for the first time yesterday :)
I am a mod on a whitelisted java smp server playing vanilla+terralith.
I run prism on archlinux with a heavily modded fabric client for qol and graphics.
The current world is Medieval Minecraft for Forge, running on a dedicated homebrew server. Previously we were playing All the Mods 8. Our household has been playing modded since Beta, so we’ve tried many, many mods and packs.
We have run Bedrock once or twice, but nothing beats modded Java for new and interesting content. I also really can’t do without Journeymap.
I have a survival world that I play on with my brother and sister (LAN). I have several QOL and Optimization mods but they are all client side. I’m currently testing out Prism Launcher but haven’t switched over yet.
There is also a whitelist server that I occasionally play on but only when my siblings grow tired of Minecraft (their interest ebbs and flows with the natural cycle of yearly updates and school). I have tried several times to start a server with my IRL friends but they all last about 2 months then after 4 months another one starts up, server 3 was about 6 months ago, I’m always one of the last to leave. I find that there is no substitute to playing with someone IRL vs. using Discord/VoiceChat, or maybe I’m just shy.
I’ve only been playing since late 2019 so I still find vanilla Minecraft to be an enriching experience. I’m saving modded for when I finally get tired of vanilla but I’ve been going for 3 years with no end in sight.
Funnily enough I started playing on Bedrock (Windows 10) but when I started watching Hermitcraft I switch over to Java and never looked back.
I only ever play through old Super Hostile maps or go exploring through old Hermitcraft/Empires seasons in Java (singleplayer).
I play a lot of modded Bedrock using Lutris, and it runs quite a bit smoother than Java (even though I do use optifine and disable a lot of features in the settings on Java).
I play on my phone because I live off-grid and don’t have reliable electricity. I use my Xbox One controller and put the phone in a stand and power it all with a big battery.
I play on a private SMP that my brother in law created mostly to play with his 7 yrs old son to make him discover the game he used to play when he was younger. However he got quickly tired of playing so it’s my nephew and me only now. It’s a new perspective for me as I’m watching and mentoring a new player getting better and better.
Server is mostly vanilla with a few mods like dynmap and blocklocker. I plan to integrate xaero’s and warp pads so he can start exploring more without fearing to get lost.
I pretty much exclusively play modded, where I set up a server in my homelab for me and my friends to play on. There’s just so much new content to explore than the base game!
If I get invited to a Vanilla server, I’ll always use some form of lightly modded client with some QoL stuff (e.g. a Fabric instance with performance mods like Sodium/Lithium/Phosphor, OkZoomer to mimic the handy Optifine zoom, and a map like Journeymap/Xaero).
I dislike playing pure Vanilla without at least some performance mods on. I don’t get low frames, but the fact that I’m missing out on efficiency irks me.

I play Bedrock, on a single-player server, using a Retroid Pocket 2+! It’s an Android-based gaming handheld.
Prism Launcher running Minecraft with Fabric API, Sodium, Iris Shaders, and a shader or two on a SteamDeck. The gyro control is really immersive.
Stock Bedrock survival on a Shockbyte server I play with my kids and some of their friends. But I play on it more than any of them.
Plus a Bedrock realm I keep up to play with my kids, nieces, grandparents, etc to play creative together.
Fyi, I can’t imagine playing more than a minute on a phone without an external controller. I tried once…
- On a realm with a friend currently. We occasionally just reset everything and start from scratch.
- Also a lot of single player. For some reason starting out on a new world is fun to me.
- I sometimes randomly seek out an invite to a SMP server and again, like to get on and start out. This one has more of a feeling like I am being hunted, so I usually start the world and hit the ground running. I have been pretty good at getting far away from spawn and making a nice underground fortress. My main list of items to get before I go underground is various saplings, some buckets of water, some sugarcane to make a map, and string. Once I have a fishing pole and some food and water I can find a spot to go underground and never come back up, unless I feel like it. I will eventually make a huge room and plant trees so I can harvest my own wood, and build a pond that I can fish out of.
I play mostly on my Switch on bedrock, but have a Java edition copy that I use occasionally. Depends on my mood and where I am at. I prefer Java edition, but the ease of picking up my Switch or having it docked to the tv really makes it convenient to just hop on a game. All of my worlds are just vanilla. Not really into the whole mods bit.
I play on a vanilla+ (MiniHUD and Carpet mods) server that only contains real-life friends.
- I have an ARM-based VPS on Oracle cloud and play SMP on it with couple of my friends
- Mainly vanilla with some small QoL mods (Mob-heads / invisible item frames / bundles)
- I have rules on the server where the gameplay is deliberately slowed down or made harder. Such as no nether roof travel / no trading diamond tools / no raid farm
If anyone wants to join the server, send me a DM.
