Yesterday, I’ve cancelled the Amazon Prime subscription, and I feel really good about it (even though the subscription is really low in Poland, I just didn’t want to have it).
I’ve replaced it with few other things:
- allegro smart subscription (to save on deliveries from Polish local online marketplace allegro.pl)
- an occasional subscription just for one month when I want to watch some specific show (or even find and purchase DVDs for things I like to rewatch often)
- smaller online/offline relatil shops whenever applicable
For anything else I’ve never been using Amazon services, so it is kind of no-brainer for me ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Congratulations! Every step is a victory and worth celebrating 🎉
I went to cancel a couple of months ago but my dad now uses my subscription to watch football. So at least I’m breaking their TOS
Well done, it’s a marathon not a sprint, These small victories add up.
Also using EU alternatives also helps local businesses, or alternatives.
The convenience is too much for me to give up. It was easy to just go buy pretty much anything within walking distance or a short subway ride when I lived in a European capital, but in the suburbs in the US it’s a hassle to get most things other than groceries.
Plus the 5% cash back on all Amazon and Whole Foods purchases (the two places that make up 90% of all we buy) adds up to a lot for us, many times more than what we pay on membership.
And even if I really was ready to give those things up out of principle, I’d never get my wife on board with it.
I never had it. And when I tried to order some filters for our fridge ( yeah fucking filters for a fridge they want you to repalce for 30€ every half year and I found cheaper ones on amazon). And I just could not login as apparently my account is locked and I need to contact support? Well fuck that I say stay locked, see if I care.
Look up the name of the filters if possible, you would likely be able to find it online elsewhere.
To be honest I could not be bothered. It’s not my fridge anyway. Just sent the links to my dad and he bought them.
I did look for the filters and only found them on amazon. That’s why I was there in the first place. Luckily they had shipping to my country because they often don’t.
Why would a fridge even require filters?
If you can drink the tap water and it’s for the ice then you probably don’t need the filters.
It’s an activated carbon fresh air filter. Fuck if I know why it NEEDS it. It does help keep the fridge smelling clean though. The fridge does not have any special features.
I also cancelled Prime a while ago. They kept increasing the price and yet Prime Video at the time at least was a shit show and didn’t justify paying more for Prime. Haven’t really missed it since there are lots of great specialized shops anf eBay for anything more generic.
I’ve replaced mine with Otto Plus for a tenner and a VPN to watch the BBC.
